AFA PHL Meeting today

Exactly, and get a line (sorry, "block" ) for people with a decade. Sick of being granny airways.

I'm glad it was brought up to get Carol in our face to fire some questions at her. She NEEDS to explain herself. Now with that being said WHY do you have to go to a union meeting to have your voice heard? If the union "claims" they know how bad we reserves have it why in hell do I have to commute in if a commuter or drive/take the train to the airport on a day off to listen to the same old dribble? Even after EVERYONE that wants to get their voice heard and vent to Carol what the hell will change? We have these union meetings and all of us who are "mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore" continue to take it more and more and more. It's a joke. You want to make the company listen? You want the company to agree to some kind of amendment to the reserve issue? Take a true stance as the auto workers did and DRAW A LINE in the sand. NOBODY WORKS. Call it a job action or whatever the hell anyone wants. Until you do THAT you will NOT be heard. Fire everyone who walks....who cares. What are they gonna do order you back to work with a police escort? It's not like they can put the "Help Wanted" sign in the window and have me replaced tomorrow. We have a union that is as weak as water. I'm absolutely FED UP with the company and the union that can do NOTHING for ALL of it's dues paying members. Take these union meetings and stick them up their @$$es. It's all meaningless BS. Everyone feel better after the meeting today? I'm so sure.

Can you tell me if any Blockholder issues were discussed? I am most concerned with consistency with the T/A lines. They really need to keep the days consistent for the whole line. I like to fly Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. It drove me crazy when I got a hold of the PHL bid sheet and saw they mix it up with a Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday or a Wednesday/Thursday/Friday. It will be impossible to commute to PIT on FRI evenings!
Yes I was at the meeting and we were all concerned about the T/A lines. It drove us crazy too if you were not able to commute and see your hubby. I said to all the damm reserves how dare you bring up that you cant afford to live on your measley pay and you can't see your family, I am all about the lines so shut up you LOWLY RESERVES!!

Tempe can save a lot of money by getting rid of flight attendants at the top of the pay scale. This would directly create more blocks for the reserves. There are many senior F/As who can not afford to leave due to lack of resources and alternate opportunities, but there is also a significant number who have always planned on staying until they complete 25 years for that Pass. Tempe could offer the lifetime flight benefits or some type of sliding scale for those with a minimum of 14 years, without the money. This would be of minimal cost to the company and allow those 20-24 year F/As who do not qualify for the 65 point plan to leave with something for their two decades of service.

I like your thinking. Medical coverage is also a huge concern though and I think that may be one of the reasons more didn't take it.

If medical coverage is a concern then that means that the F/A does not have:

1. Another job that offers medical.
2. A spouse that can share medical.
3. Money sitting in the bank to pay for private insurance.

The reasons above would also indicate a total lack of financial independence outside of this company and therefore, even if the company offered medical for a certain amount of time, say a year which would cost dearly, the F/A is not in a position to leave since there is not enough money to live, period.

Oh Gloria! Your killing me. People, read her posts carefully
I absolutely LOVE that most people are missing Gloria's sarcasm here, and are getting all hot and bothered. Hilarious!!

Temper temper, twicebaked.. it's heart attack season....

OT, let's start gettin' our questions ready for Carol!

No matter what will come out, it was the members that passed a motion for Carol Austin to speak and answer questions at the earliest possible time, which is the spring. It was not anyone in AFA's idea, it was the memberships. It was a nice example that if you want answers you go get them. I will applaud AFA 70 officers for not resisting this motion and supporting it. No one wants to shove something down anothers throat. Now the question will be, how will Ms. Austin respond and interact with the members.

Carol Austin needs to go- go - go!!!! You hear that Mike? You hear that John???? She is what, 65 years old???? With 40 years seniority, and she's drinking the company kool aide. She has NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON. SHE HAS NO IDEA WHAT GOES ON DAY to DAY!!!! The crappy trips!!! The shithole hotels!!! No time to rest!!!! Her and chip meyer. Oh, they are doing their best to minimize crew changes, and optimize duty days. Let's get both of their asses out here to fly a 4 leg minimum layover and deplane, clean the airlplane, deal with wheelchairs, check shitty PHL catering. You try it, it doesn't work Carol. Some days we don't have time to pee with these shitty trips. Carol, you need to go! Retire already! You'd better wear your armour when you come to the meeting in March!!! You won't be well received!!!

Girl, run for office, or vote someone else in! CLT didn't step up, same ol' same ol', and I won't even comment on the PHL disaster ...
Hell, just like our passengers, we get what we pay (or vote, or don't take the time to vote) for.

HMM interesting when I bring up to hold the union dues I get a response of "that wont do anything" I and other say go to the meetings but people dont want to show up because "its a waste of time" everthing we try to do someone always has an excuse so now my question is what do you want to do that is not a waste of time or energy to change the system? do I feel better after the union meeting. I dont feel worse and I can say I and a few other at least tried. If something comes out of it then everyone benefits, if nothing comes out of it then you can say hey I got to stay home while all those silly reserves wasted their time. Feel better?

FlightAttend21 is right. The first name to come to mind is: TravelPro? Are you there? Everything seems to be a waste of time to you. Is there something that isn't? You said a "Walk Out" would be effective. Are you willing to start that up and get other flight attendants involved? The ball is in your court.

Just a warning... don't try to disagree or call Trav out on anything... he/she gets reeeeeally mad... Mmmhmm, the "regulars" on here can dish it, but they certainly can't take it.... Can't we all just looooove one another? I'm sure Gloria will bake something to warm out hearts.........

LOL- I'm NOT trying to make him mad at ME. Our F/A group needs a good leader to get stuff done, and I think TRAVEL would be PERFECT for it. So, I'm trying to get him started so that he will get pumped up and get everyone motivated. We have a very sadly motivated group and need a good, well informed person to lead us. I think that TRAVEL would get things done once he was to start.
