Aircraft UPGRADES

There are no full new interiors currently in our a/c, that will begin sometime in the next two months, probably November will begin the process. Two configurations of the B757 are probably attributed to the lower revenue yield for certain markets.
oh, please!! bunk. bunk. bunk.
the new interiors are horrid. so transparently cheap. and, if team impoTEMPE has plans to do more, stop while you are ahead (relatively speaking, of course).

Hey Twice! On the Airbus does the FAA say there has to be No Smoking signs? Maybe I just missed them. UW we all know you love to SPIN it for Tempe. I hope they don't create a debacle out of this as well. EMB is right....drab and thrown together by a 2nd grade student.

Ashtrays are required by the FAA. This would be in case someone would light a cigarette..... they would need to put it somewhere and NOT in the lav trash bin to start a fire.

Although no smoking signs are not required at everyseat they are required to be placed in certain areas of an aircraft.
Ashtrays are NOT required by the FAA.

Ashtrays are required at lavatories only. Not at seats.

Placards like No Smoking, Fasten Seatbelt While Seated, and Lifevest located Under seat or Seat cushion usable for flotation are required, we have them on the tray table or stitched into the seat. This is why in some instances a missing tray table means that seat cannot be occupied.

Lighted No Smoking signs are not required, and are obsolete since smoking is not permitted at any time.

US Airways was one of the first airlines to introduce a "PED" sign when they took delivery of thier Airbus aircraft in the late 90's. They continued this with all Group aircraft delivered since (Embraer and Canadair). Some other airlines have followed suit, even some aircraft manufacturers have them as standard now.

The company will likely tell employees that it can't afford to pay them more because of all the capital that it is spending to keep the aircraft up-to-date, yet they will find money for management bonuses so they don't lose any of their highly qualified (cough, cough) management team.

sky high states: Someone keep a running TOTAL OF THE QUARTERLY PROFITS, so everyone will know what to paint on their picket signs!

ONLY stating opinions

what does the new cabin interiors look like? are all the airbus's (airbi? airbuses? what is the plural for airbus anyways? haha) going to look like the embraer 190's? (blue seats, swoosh bulkheads?)

could this new "revolutionary" inflight entertainment be similar to virgin america?

...wishful thinking

The new interior is already installed on the 5 factory delivered E190s, it is also on most of the 767s, except the new Yawn-voy seats haven't been put in yet.

Blue leather seats or seat covers on refurbished a/c. Bulkhead is blue on the bottom, gray on top seperated by the swoosh. Heat wave in the blue part. Annoyingly off center flag logo on bulkhead.

The IFE is down to 2 systems to choose from. There is supposed to be a test aircraft in the west fleet, sometime before the end of the year.

There are no smoking placards in the lavs and I believe on the outside of the lav doors.

They aren't required about every seat. Those were in place when smoking was allowed on the aircraft...not just for a safety issue.

It IS a no go item if it is missing therefore it IS required.
Actually it is kind of like an aircraft specific thing (I can't remember the exact language) but something like if a certain aircaft has ashtrays installed in the seats then all of the seats on that aircraft must have them, something weird like that, so no not every aircaft has to have them in the seats, but they have to be installed somewhere on the aircrart ie. on the outside of the lavs.

As for the overhead extensions on the 757 fleet, they are just an extension to the front of the bin and a different style door, the PSU does not have to be replaced. If you've ever flown on UA you would've seen the extensions on most if not all of their 737 and 757 fleet. If I remember correctly the ATA 57's have these extensions. Most if not all AA and DL 757's have them and I think CO may have them as well. But then again we are talking about "real" airlines here.

Also there are a handful of AWA 319's and 320's with the bigger overhead bins. These are the newest ones that they took delivery of (Diamondbacks probably knows which ones to be exact). It's not really a bigger overhead but the door itself is designed different and has a different latch which gives a lot more room and most bags can be turned so as to not "hog" the whole bin. I had the opportunity to fly on a few of them (they're the ones with the leather seats) and they were pretty nice

I've got a GREAT and FACTUAL update on they interiors..... I had one of the head Interior Engineers from they engineering dept. jumpseating on my cabin jumpseat from DFW-PHX yesterday, and he filled us all in on the new interiors and this the information he passed along....
  • Every A/C staying in the fleet longer than 14-16months will be updated
  • West 737s are going first, 2 at a time starting the 5th of Oct. (312AW) is going to PIT for heavy MX and will get new leather seat covers, carpet, new laminate on the class dividers, new interior paint and lav laminates
  • Airbus will get the most done to them with Overhead bin extensions, new leather seat coverings, carpet, new sidewall panels, new class dividers, new lav laminate, new F/A jumpseat parts, minor/moderate galley re-config on older west airbus
  • all seats, carpet, class dividers system wide will match and be consistant through-out they entire fleet
  • ALL of this pending logistical stuff will be completed in 15-18months supposdly FOR SURE
  • Alot of the seat coverings, carpet, class dividers, minor things will be done on RONs in certain city's were MX will be built up just for this operation
  • over $60million will be put into make this all happen
  • There looking at removing Y class ovens and putting A/C microwaves and pre-made compartment inserts for F/A storage on Airbus/757 galley's
  • 1st test IFE airbus is a west airbus going into have all of they above MODS done plus the in-seat test IFE installed in the middle/end of OCT in California
  • Most MODS will be done on west A/C first since alot of they interiors are not consitant and ratty/cheap looking was his exact words, but east lines will be going around the same time just not as many to start with
  • 757s will be configured the same for Hawaii/Europe operations, the west 757 starting w/ the last remaing non-US painted (former AZ livery) will get the new treatments w/ possibility of ENVOY seats to match east ETOPS
  • 312AW will be online by the end of OCT. w/ all the new MODS
  • New Galley (atlas) carriers for storage have been ordered and will be arriving to replace all old awa and dangerous grey US carriers
  • new carts will continure to arrive to replace all old awa carts that dont have chiller vents and will continue to arrive in batches of 200-500 at a time
  • working on solution to re-config or alter east 757 galleys to accept the same airbus style galley carts to standardize fleet
  • new airbus's arriving starting early march 321s will all be outfitted to match the fleet after MODS

Refurbishing the overhead bins? Why does the luggage always get better treatment than the passengers (and that's not saying much)? Has US ever looked into, maybe, well....a comfortable seat, and I don't mean sticky leather/pleather? And heaven forbid I should dare to mention.....well...maybe, a bit more leg room.
