$80 MILLION!!! Are you sure that's not $8 Million.

The Boyd Group Assists Latrobe, Pennsylvania In Re-Establishing Air Service With
Three Daily Northwest Airlink Flights To Detroit

EVERGREEN, COLORADO – November 22, 2004. Northwest Airlines today announced new Airlink service to Latrobe, Pennsylvania starting next April. Three daily flights will link Arnold Palmer Regional Airport to Northwest's global hub at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

In the aftermath of the pull-down of the US Airways hub at Pittsburgh, Latrobe lost all air service earlier this year. The Airport engaged The Boyd Group to analyze the potential of re-establishing the region's connectivity to the air transportation system. The Colorado-based consulting firm then assisted the community in winning a Small Community Air Service grant intended to support and incubate a return of viable air service.

Using these grant funds, The Boyd Group developed data outlining the new Western Pennsylvania traffic patterns in the wake of the elimination the US Airways' Pittsburgh hub. Defining specific revenue and passenger flows, a compelling air service plan was presented to Northwest.

"We believe that just getting scheduled airplanes into small communities isn't really air service," noted Michael Boyd, president of The Boyd Group. "It is important that the service provide on-line connectivity, and that's what this new service offers Latrobe." He noted that the Airlink service gives consumers access to dozens of destinations across the nation, and - importantly - to international points as well. "Northwest's position as the premium carrier to Asia and China will enhance economic development in the region served by Arnold Palmer Regional Airport."

Founded in 1984, The Boyd Group is a leader in assisting communities in crafting viable air service development strategies. It has offices in Evergreen, Colorado, and works with airports, airlines, aircraft manufacturers and financial institutions. In 2004, it achieved the distinction of assisting its small airport clients in capturing 33% of total funds allocated to the DOT Small Community Air Service Development program, more than any other consultant

I can tell you from first hand experience..

AA did this exact same thing a couple of years ago flying BOS to PIT
using the EMB-135's.. They lost their ass!!! Within a few months of
starting they pulled all but 1 flight a day and then that disappeared.

AA will lose.. Same fares and you get a choice of flying on an Airbus
or an EMB135.. Guess who will win..

Isn't American Eagle still operating sort-off a Shuttle between DCA, JFK, and BOS with ERJ145s? The route maybe DCA, LGA, BOS.

If the LGA-CLT flights prove at all popular, they will be upgraded to mainline in short order.

I'm interested in why someone said that LGA-ATL is stupid. From the largest city in the South to the favorite business traveler airport in New York? I would hardly call that stupid. We already do a land office business on ATL-ORD and ATL-DFW. Why not ATL-LGA?

😀

I don't know how much the subsidy is, but I know it's nowhere near $80 million for 3 years. B)

$80 million wouldn't buy 3 daily SAAB flights - that much money would get several daily 757s.

very interesting to note that....... ABE had given TWA at the time $$ to provide service to both STL and JFK, shortly after MR Wolf was told this, U quickly sued and won

in fact same time frame BWI was charging all BWI passengers an additional 3.00 fee for airport facilities. Except upon further review it was discovered it was going to fund ONLY the construction of a terminal and facilities for SWA ONLY. a few WEEKS later U had gotten a payment back from BWI for every customer that had been charged that. since the facilities charge can only be charge if ALL tenants benefit.

You know what, I could be wrong but the fact remains NWest was given financial incentive to fly to LBE. I will dig some more to get the $ amount for sure.

Hey Light Years,
Where did you hear that NW was going into HVN? Tried to google it and had no luck. I non-rev all the time on the Dash 8s to see family in New Haven . Is so long overdue for US to start putting RJs on HVN-PHL and maybe one day on HVN-CLT and HVN-DCA. DL is flying the CRJ to CVG and from what I hear, they are doing well.
HVN is a great airport alternative to both BDL and LGA and there is definetly a market there. Southeastern Connecticut is densely populated, major industry in the area, a big tourist destination(casinos,Mystic), and the most important thing...New Haven is one of the biggest college towns in the nation. Bigger airplanes are needed in HVN.

Uh, the attack's been underway for a while, guys.

For those who didn't notice, Eagle already has been running side-by-side with U's big jets. Daily RJ counts are 3ORD/2MIA/3DFW.

Come June 1, it's up to 4ORD/2MIA/3DFW/5LGA, and the overall cost of doing this may not be all that much because the aircraft are able to flow over CLT as opposed to doing out-n-back turns.

My guess is that there are a lot of former CP's in the CLT area who've switched over to AA in the past six months, and that helps justify the LGA nonstops.

I suspect LGA-ATL is targeted at Airtran more than anything else. Given the option of paying the same to fly on DL, AA, or FL, true mileage whores will gravitate towards AA and DL.

Time will tell...

That statement is both patently false and misleading. It was a total of 700k--600k from the feds in the form of a grant, and 100k from the airport authority itself.

And the people from Sony are eating it up, apparently.

AS was stated b-4 AA has a vast majority of freq. flyers who will gravitate to AA for milage. See LGA_DCA LGA BOS.The empire will strike back.
