American To Attack Charlotte

better rephrase that...AA is spending the money to make U lose the money.....
go away little U ,this big boy game....buh bye.....

Don't kid yourself. AA is in VERY DEEP TROUBLE itself. Their business plan is shrinkage, waiting for U and UAL to belly up and praying for oil prices to go down, while transferring more and more flying to high-cost RJs.

Not much of a business strategy, if you ask me.

Stupid AA should have gone on the U business plan. Do BK every other year, kill off employee pensions and take compensation down to 1980s levels. Drive moral six feet under and then wonder why they still lose millions on a daily basis. I don't think it would be wise for AA to emulate the great so called success's at U. BTW is not U the great RJ airline?

We've got $3.5 BILLION in the bank. All our pension obligations for 2004 were paid in full. Plan is to pay all pension obligations in 2005. Yesterday, AMR announced an increase of 119 flights/day at DFW--45 are AA, the rest AE--with 12 new destinations. I don't call that shrinkage.

Was that an increase in systemwide ASMs, or just moving from one hub to another? Increases in flights at a given airport do not constitute growing the company.

There some minor service terminations, but for the most part this is an increase in ASMs.

This is the stupidest post I have seen in a long time...

I am supposed to be impressed with a handful of small RJ flights, sent as some supposed response to our much larger move into FLL (to directly compete with AAL's hub at MIA), or our increased flying in our own CRJ/ERJ's, and E-170's into AAL markets and Hubs like DFW...

Please. 🙄

It is not that AAL's move is stupid, it is just a stupid premise that this is some "attack" that we should all run and take cover from.

Face it, if you are using this as a supposed death knell for U, then you are really grasping at straws now... <_<

Hey Light Years,
Where did you hear that NW was going into HVN? Tried to google it and had no luck. I non-rev all the time on the Dash 8s to see family in New Haven . Is so long overdue for US to start putting RJs on HVN-PHL and maybe one day on HVN-CLT and HVN-DCA. DL is flying the CRJ to CVG and from what I hear, they are doing well.
HVN is a great airport alternative to both BDL and LGA and there is definetly a market there. Southeastern Connecticut is densely populated, major industry in the area, a big tourist destination(casinos,Mystic), and the most important thing...New Haven is one of the biggest college towns in the nation. Bigger airplanes are needed in HVN.

Not sure which Dash-8 you non-rev on, but the Dash-8-300 has the same number of seats as the 50 seat CRJ.

Clogging up PHL with more runway-hungry RJ's is not a good solution.

I guess that's why Arpey's continuing to lay off workers.

There is an addition of 100 plus flights at DFW. There is no response to U at FLL. There is no need.

Three points:

US Airways has stuck a “stick in the eyeâ€￾ of every major legacy carrier with EMB-170 service from DCA to OA hubs, like ATL, IAH, DFW, ORD, DTW, & CLE. In addition, US Airways is launching a major assault on AA’s MIA hub with its new FLL operation, thus it should not be surprising that the Ft. Worth-based carrier is striking back with EMB-135 37-seat RJ flights between LGA & CLT.

The issue for US Airways is simple: if the company has a competitive cost structure it will not matter what AA Eagle, Southwest, or any other airline does.

Separately, I doubt many people will opt to fly on the smallest RJ in the industry instead of a B737 or A320 family aircraft between LGA & CLT.

I'm sure other carriers are concerned about the Costly, Unreliable E-170.
lol

In my 20 years at US Airways every new aircraft had initial operating problems and this should be expected. The EMB-170 is a very competitive product and if I was the CEO of a legacy carrier, I would be concerned about MDA.

The aircraft has a better cabin than a B737 and is more profitable in certain markets with an Express cost structure.

Lets see how is it a major assault when US flies only to 13 cities with what 20 or 30 flights a day?

And AA has the following:
American's Commitment to Miami
American's employment in the community has grown from 275 in 1989 people to approximately 9,000 making it one of the largest private employers in Miami-Dade County with an annual payroll that exceeds $415 million and 115,000 job are created through ancillary businesses.

American has increased jet departures from 19 flights in 1989 to 201 today. And, American Eagle, American's regional partner serves 14 destinations with 43 daily flights. American's total destinations at Miami have jumped since 1989 from six cities to 93 -- 25 of them in Latin America, two in Mexico, 20 in the Caribbean, two in Canada and four in Europe. From Miami American and American Eagle serve 37 cities in the U.S. In 1989, American carried about 2 million passengers through its Miami hub. This year, that total will exceed 15 million -- many of them stopping over for visits in the area and pumping important dollars into the local community.
