What's new

Base Assignments for furloughees returning in Nov.

Not until after July 08 as they have 1500 or so on the furlough list.
In aircraft maintenance NYC they have nearly exhausted the list. The most recent call back was number 161 out of 178. A mechanic a month leaves either by resigning or retiring so in less than a year and a half (probably sooner) they will have exhausted the list.

A lot of people around here #### about how Shumer is always pumping up Jet Blue but lets face the facts here, AA is eliminating jobs while JB is creating them. Between AA and TWA there were around 600 mechanics jobs at JFK (400AA, 200TWA), now the combined total is only around 270.

actually, once all the July'03 furloughees are recalled (which could happen if there's another recall), the company can hire fresh after May 1 (the next earliest TWA furlough date was 5/01/03).

then accordingly, once those folks are recalled, AA can hire after April 1. So, the more people brought back with the rumored January recall, the sooner AA can hire

All AA has to do is ANNOUNCE a recall of the remaining and schedule them for training at will and the hiring process could begin immediately. The training center is geared up, hiring team would need to be put into place, (wouldn't you love to do that..lol), and AA could actually focus on hiring quality. Lets see how proactive they are...

as the most cynical furloughee awaiting recall, such action by AA would rock my world to the point where I wouldn't know what's real anymore.

it is obvious that AA waited as long as they could to recall TWA FAs. i think the 200 rehired this summer relieved the Labor Day operation and the 500 most recent recalls are being put in place to protect the end of year holidays. AA stated that they were surprised at the high rate of recall acceptance which leads me to believe that, if they could do it again, the last recall would have been smaller.

while some argue that the difference between the TWA "top pay" and new-hire pay isn't worth delaying growth or suffering operational shortages, I can't seem to forget that AA is the airline that took an olive out of a F/C salad to save $40,000/yr. every penny counts in the airline business, especially in todays' competitive enviroment.

so that said, I believe that AA knows exactly at what point on the seniority list it no longer makes sense to recall and that is where the recalls will stop. while immediately recalling everyone would allow them to immediately start hiring cheaper , it would also almost appear as a goodwill gesture, something that is totally out of character for AA, and totally unfortunate for the 1000s of furloughees that have already fallen off the AA recall list
