BOB Shrinkage!

Aloha from Maui

I just flew PHX-OGG yesterday morning, a 6 1/2 hour flight. We had 184 pax on a 757 with a capacity of 190 (14 First, 176 Coach). We were provisioned in the main cabin with 17 Turkey Ciabatta Sandwiches, 17 California Chicken Salads and 17 Snack Boxes. We sold 4 Snack Boxes for $20, 4 Sandwiches for $28 and 4 Salads for $28. We have been instucted by inflight services to leave unsold fresh meals on the counter in the galley to be disposed, as they spoil and leave an oder if left in the carts. This means, as galley hag, I left 26 fresh meals on the counter in the aft galley for aircraft cleaners, rampers, mechanics, TSA, the return crew to PHX, or the trash can if there were no other takers.

The pilots have hot crew meals. We flight attendants carry our own food.
Believe me, if any of us ate one more Ciabatta sandwich "piled high with sliced turkey (NOT)" we would throw up.

Our 3 trash carts were overflowing upon arrival in Maui--mostly with California Pizza Kitchen or Pizza Hut boxes, not to mention Burger King and Blue Burrito Grille bags.

Oh yeah, we sold $283 worth of Cokes, Bottled water, etc. Not one person complained..about a $2.00 coke..they rarely do. Chalk up another win for Doug (just my opinion as an ex HP westy)

On the crossing back to the mainland tonight we will be lucky to sell $30 in beverages. Everyone sleeps.

I usually do 5 or 6 Hawaii flights a month--all islands--and this is pretty much how it goes on every flight. Interpret however you will but these are the facts.

I believe this is a US West perk only, except on transatlantic. US East pilots gave up this benefit during one of the concessionary contracts, I think.

The turkey on Ciabatta with turkey bacon is really a NASTY tasting sandwich
Why don't they get something people actually like and on't mind paying for????

Does anybody remember when some airlines had water in a can with your meal? Yes, it was free and yada, yada, yada 🙄

In Europe I lived near a natural water spring where villagers would come and fill their water jugs for free. When my father suggested we bottle and sell it, we all laughed  and laughed  and laughed

Seeing that people will pay for municipal water in a bottle today, I wondered if my father wasn't a genius. Why people hate tap or free water is beyond me. Yet they pay for it.

The problem with most is that they don't appreciate anything until it's gone. What if US charged for toilet paper? Four sheets per person and anything over costs a buck a sheet per person? What would you pay to get extras if you were HERE!

A couple of points.
Beverages are not the same as BOB. The company buys the soda or water and then sells them.
With the BOB LSG assumes all the risk and profit! (US may get a small cut but I am not sure on that).

The same article mentioned the handhelds are coming on line at years end.

So if you do steal or throw away a sandwhich it is not US Airways that you hurt but LSG!

US should switch to a cashless cabin. That would immediately solve some of the problems. This should have been a pre-requisite to starting BOB. I flew AS a few weeks ago and the whole process seemed so much easier for the crew. No more asking for change. No more carrying $100+ in their pockets for the duration of the flight. Passengers got a receipt. Etc.

What is the official policy on crew having a drink (soda, water, coffee, etc.)? Let's be honest, I've seen pilots and F/As drinking sodas and coffee all the time. Is this an honor system to pay or are crew entitled to free drinks?
I was on a cashless flight from CLT-LAS and it took 1.5 hr for them to serve the entire plane. You think that person who boarded first and got served last wanted to wait 2 hrs?

What carrier? I did not see these issues on a LAS-SEA flight on AS.

The masses are screaming for the return of the tuna burrito BOB.

I thought, "How is shrinkage possible with BOB, that's one of the selling points, right?" My bad... I thought "BOB" was referring to "Battery Operated Boyfriend".

Maybe the Tempe boys might consider lowering the standard just a bit more with just two words... "vending machines". Remove the galleys, stock drinks and cold sandwiches in refrigerated vending machines and turkey and tuna fish sandwiches would be as stale dated as those in our break room. Then again, vending machines would not allow theft, FA's carrying money, and reduce spoilage and strinkage. But would I need to shake the vending machine violently when my Goobers are caught on the rotating cork screwy thing?

So Muses Jester.

here is a simple solution....sell coupon books...passengers can purchase booklets on line or at a machine at the airport...sell the coupon booklets for $20.00, $50.00 whatever the price may be....the coupons can be worth....$1.00, $2.00. $5.00. $7.00...which covers the price of sodas, water, juice, coffee, tea, snack boxes. and mixed drinks......and coming soon..pillows and blankets.....have expiration dates on the coupons...let's say 2 years from date of purchase.....this way no one is touching money....no change....no hand held devices....no brinks machine....this would save the company tons of money...people will buy the booklets...not use all of the coupons by the expiration date and the company all ready has their money......

Just so you know...this is what CO does, they allow you to print out a coupon for Alcoholic Beverages in Coach.

Whenever anyone asks for water.... I ask "Bottled Water for two dollars" or "airplane water... put in the tank on the ground... like we gave you before some nerd invented bottled water!! LOL"

*cries* IntlSNN caught me with my hand in the cookie jar 🙁 I admit it I took the trolleys full of left over BoBs and gave it to the Teds parked in the desert 🙁
