I noticed the past week that Boeing is advertising more on the local TV channels in Philadelphia. Are they doing that in Phoenix and Charlotte? I believe they are making a pitch for US to go Boeing. I hope Tempe does choose them.

I saw a boeing commercial on channel 23 the other day. (Discovery channel.) I wonder if it's cable only or if they are doing it in broadcast chans as well.

Boeing does a pretty good amount of TV advertising for a company that doesn't sell to the public. I probably see 2-3 a week here in the GSO area.

I must just be noticing them now more then. I thought that they were ramping up in key US cities trying to campaign.

these ads are nationwide and will have no influence on the next purchase of plans.

I've often wondered why they put money into consumer marketing when the vast majority of the audience doesn't actually purchase the products. The Boeing commericials I saw several months back were more aimed at positioning it as more than just an airplane company, so the marketing machine is running at top speed. But I wonder if the shareholders would rather that money be saved (for better profits) or put back into R&D instead.

My guess is that they have to spend X amount on advertising. They probably do just enough where its a tax right off, or somewhere along that line.

i think what boeing is doing is showing what a good investment it would be if you are looking to buy stocks. that what they are selling to the public

Back when I took Marketing in college, we spent some time discussing why companies advertise in the way Boeing is doing even though that advertising really isn't meant to induce a purchase. Part of advertising is to generate awareness of the brand, an image of the brand, an image of the company, etc., that carries with it downstream benefits for employee morale, passengers flying on a Boeing plane, etc. This, incidentally, is something Tempe doesn't understand ... as evidenced by the media coverage the past few days in PHL, DCA and elsewhere ... yet not a senior mgr to be found anywhere.
