Boom Collapsed On A330

can anyone comment on the level of damage and how long 677 may be out of service?

The Manchester flights for this week have been downgraded to 767.

Oh for crisssakes. Screw the airplane and the schedule. Both can be fixed. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE CONDITION OF THE INJURED WORKER?

Listen here, I feel bad for the employee. Its not a pleasant situation when someone gets hurt onthe job. Having said that the thread was about A/C 677, not the employee. Does anyone have any more info of the damage?
truly yours 🙂

Hopefully the person was not seriously injured!!!! If they are off for any period of time wait until the shock of opening next weeks pay and find out the rate is only 50% for the first week!!!! I would not put it past this company!!!!

There's no "put it past the company" - that is exactly what will happen.

Moreover, the trip to the ER will count as an attendance occurence.

Is this a great company, or what?

I too feel bad for the injuries to our co-worker...and the latest news was , He is still in the Hospital. Rumor has it , that the employee is a former CLT worker whom transfered to PHL to retain a job.

Regarding 677 itself. The damage has not been completely outlined...but on the surface it looks like 1 aileron and one flap took the brunt of the impact. The impact with the wing area did slow the fall of the de-icers bucket , which may have inturn saved his life? That is speculative at best from having talked to people in PHL

677 will take some further diagnosing regarding repairs and hidden structural problems...and this may entail involvement with Airbus Engineering to confirm the extent of the damage. This all being pretty much standard fare for something of this freak nature.

Rest assured...677 will be flying again at some point and it will be repaired back to New standards before being returned to service.

The issue in the long term is the long term welfare of a humble employee whom was injured doing a seemingly thankless task that many simply take for granted. My best wishes go out to this person and his family...I wish him a very speedy recovery and a safe return to work in the not too distant future.

Trust me, I know deicing is the most dangerous job out there. especially props. Has anyone here sprayed props while they are in feather? we used to dread deicing whilst props where moving ..especially with the horrible 20+yr old ford deicer we had. thank GOD I survived those days.

Thank goodness the de-icer was not badly injured, although it is a long way down from where he was.

The plane will be out of service for at least several weeks.

I just heard that the operator suffered a broken back.
Hopefully he will recover.

That is sad it will probably affect him the rest of his life.

Ouch....

Question for UW or someone else close to the contract changes.

Clearly this was a valid workman's comp claim -- was injury-on-duty pay affected by the reduced sick time, or is that carved out somehow?? What about short term disability?

OK! Everyone needs to stop and see this incident as a horrible accident. Was there and know the boom operator broke his back. You all sound like the pathetic passengers aboard that aircraft. As they watch that man get hurt, their next question was about them. When are you getting us off this aircraft. Do you have a hotel room ordered for us and when are you getting us another airplane.

What has happened to human compassion?

Compassion, I have the utmost compassion for this person. I was just posting info I thought was relevant. God bless this individual and may he/she get well soon.
