i believe umech is tpa and in phl.....

The deicing boom is owned by the airport, serviced by Globe Aviation, and a US Airways employee was operating the equipment. Initial investigation indicates the crane failed structurally and hit the trailing edge of the wing. The employee has a back injury and the total extent of the aircraft damage is yet to be determined.

Well if one person owns one thing, another maintains it, and another works it, Who owns the deicing fluid? 🙄

Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

I copied and paste this from justplanenews.com..........I hope the technician is ok.

US Airways employee hurt, plane emptied in mishap

A US Airways employee was injured and 111 passengers were evacuated from one of the airline's wide-bodied jets late Monday at Philadelphia International Airport after a mishap involving aircraft-deicing equipment, airline and airport officials said yesterday.
The accident occurred about 11:30 p.m. at the airport's deicing station near the west end of the field. A boom used to spray deicing fluid on airplane wings collapsed on the wing of the Airbus A330 jet, pulling the cab of the equipment, which is similar to a construction crane, to the ground. The injured employee was operating the boom from the cab.
The airline did not release the name of the employee, who officials said was kept overnight at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
No passengers were injured in the incident, which forced the cancellation of the plane's scheduled flight to London while the airline assessed the damage, US Airways said. The airline and the airport are investigating the cause of the mishap, the officials said.

i sure hope that the employee wil be ok and make a speedy full recovery

Well this tread is about the worker or at least titled so. The other was about the Boom and A330. technically speaking. Anyway everyone seemed to want to limit the other tread about the worker. Here they can. Hope he is ok

You're kidding right?
"So Bob, can you tell us why on March 01 you left in the middle of the shift without authorization and without punching out?"

Sadly, no kidding. Any absence, excused or not, doctor's note or not, is an occurrence.

Here's more.

After the last concessionary round, an employee can no longer use his sick bank to supplement whatever the state pays for OJI which is usually 2/3 of your wage.

Prior to concessions, you could draw 3 hours per day out of your bank to make up the 1/3 the state did not pay. No longer.

Let's assume your OJI lasts a few months. You are not drawing a paycheck from U during that time. How does your insurance get paid - there's no wage for those funds to be deducted from. Same goes for union dues, 401k contribution, etc. Are taxes due on the state compensation?

I know some accounts can go into arrears for a certain amount of time; others cannot.

Any help out there?

What it boils down to, is when you're injured on the job, and most in need of your paycheck, you are on your own.

If anyone hears of any type of fund or whatever being set up for this employee, please post the info.

Thanks,

Jim

It's amazing. Everyday some major problem or incident occurs in PHL. Hate to say it, but moving the bulk of operations to PHL will be the ultimate downfall of US Airways.
