The loads are getting to the point of being ridiculous between the east and west coast hubs. I know nonrevs take what they can get but with the demand like it is, why aren't we responding to that traffic flow with increased service? Does anyone know if there are any plans to increase inter-hub flying? Good thing we have all those RJs on the property. Wow, they're sure helping us compete now, especially with all the customers left behind at the gates.

It just gets better. I know that HP runs PHL-LAS but the east ops are going to 4 757's a day. We currently have 5 daily from PHL to LAS. I don't understand it. How often do you have an empty flight to vegas? I think we could all count on one hand how often that happens. 🙄

Thats why the smart ones never take the nonstop.

There is always a way, you just need to know where to look. 😉

People often confuse a full flight with making money, they are two different things. Hub to hub are some of the lowest yielding segments. Bottom line is airlines try to make money not fill flights.

I lived in vegas and I can not believe that that market is pure leisure. I also cannot be convinced that that market doesn't make money either. There are flights that I have seen sitting in the gate area that are oversold in the 20's and standby's in the 20's as well. I have also seen ticket prices in the 400's as well especially out of PIT when pricing it for family. I'm not sure what it is now. Everyone likes to make vegas out to be the trailer park crowd and the $9.99 buffet crowd. Well, vegas my friends is really going "high end" in many ways. VERY few junkets for the $199.00 weekend anymore. Usairways is MAKING DOUGH $ $ $ on vegas.

Don't forget, tho, aren't we returning 3 757's to lessors? Also, the 3 757's that will have to be taken out of service for ETOPS reasons.... They had to take that time from somewhere... Just thoughts......

When you compare it to the traditional "business" markets like NYC, ORD, LAX, SFO, DCA, DFW, IAH, etc. it IS leisure. The visitors in Vegas are, by and large, on a vacation of some sort. Even if it's a company convention, it's still a vacation to them.

How many average Y and B fares are purchased as a percentage of total seats on a given flight within days of the trip? Now go compare that to a business route. There's your answer. Your passengers all booked in advance and paid $200. A 757 full of $200 pax isn't really a money maker - even if its oversold. Well maybe it is now that there are more Y seats in place of the old F rows 3-6.

Those $9.99 Buffetts are rare now. I remember plenty of places had cheap buffetts. I believe the Continental, a few blocks off the strip, a real dive but they had lobster tail and crab legs all you can eat for only $5.00 if I remember correctly, or something ridiculously low like that. After dinner I stuck a $10 in the one slot machine and won $1000, 1st pull. But I wished I would have stopped then. That was my 1st trip there. I have been to Las Vegas about 30 times and only 1 time did I have a plane that was not full, and that was a saturday night flight from BWI on a 737-300. But all the other times I flew, full planes, always on the return we book an early flight back and we take bumps. $200 travel voucher here, another $200 2 hours later. AA was generally good for the bumps, cause they had flights thru out the day. US back in mid '90's only had the night flight out and red eyes back, for the most part. I think there was 1 day flight and that was out of PIT.
My favorite buffett is the Le Village in Paris Casino and the Seafood Buffett at the Rio. Mirage one not bad either. As for rooms there, I always get comped so I never do those package deals, waste of money for I am concern. I am starting to get the itch to go out there now, when is the Final Four Weekend?

yeah, and I can quote even lower fares in other markets. However, when I was traveling to LAS almost weekly a year ago, I was paying $800 or more to fly there. I love how people quote one low fare and think that the entire plane pays peanuts to fly. 🙄

please summerize for me. I didn't know the topic starter was interested in last year ticket cost or various other markets? lol.

And to be eligible for those fares, you must leave LAS on a Saturday morning and return on a Tuesday (By changing the return date to Wednesday, still a light travel day, it bumped to price up to $700 r/t). That's hardly a fair indication of average fares... though I don't disagree with you that LAS and PHX are certainly more leisurely oriented than many other major cities.

Yield is the goal. Full flights, while indicating an attempt at max revenue, really do not indicate max yield. In fact, when marketing screws up, a flight is overbooked and sloughs off paying pax to secondary carriers like SWA. Case in point, SWA shadows our LAX/PHL non-stops (4 to 5 per day) by 20 to 30 minutes. USAirways fricking supports those SWA flights just from the over-bookings.

and for this I gave up 70% of my compensation plus retirement?

and Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit infamy talks about assassination of foreigners? How about starting here in our own backyard?
