What's new

Early PIT transfer numbers

A perk? That last thing I would describe it as. I would hardly think bumping a more jr person out so you can hold whatever you like is a perk. It was meant as an effective deterrent to a displacement using monetary fines and mass chaos. What is has turned into is a mess. This was put in the contract back in the day. Way before 9/11. There are people this screws every 1-2 years. This is a disruptive tool that while legal is not fair period. The intent of it has now become sckewed and distorted.

Playing Devil's advocate, why not furlough from bases that have extra staffing in a downturn, instead of from the bottom of the list regardless of where those folks are based? After all, if seniority doesn't mean anything when time is reduced in a base, why does it matter if that time is shifted or eliminated. The people in unaffected bases shouldn't pay the price either way, right?

Oh Jim Devil's Advocate indeed and I can play it with the best of them. When this was all written our jr people were considered 1-4 years. Not 15-20. The real matter that needs to be defined is what seniority should count for and where that line is drawn? VAC, BIDDING, BASE OPENING TRANFERS, TRAVEL? Even BUMPING? I say it's pretty crappy to keep dumping on the same group of people year after year after year. But, that's for us as a collective group to determine. The problem is people look at senority as a one way street. Who do I have over me. But it's a two way street and they forget the people under them. Your senority can go forward and much to the suprise of a once 10,000 strong F/A group backwards. Right now we have the solidarity of a bowl a Jello. Watch it wiggle, see it jiggle.

But that is not the result of any contractual issue, except for possibly in the most minor way (or some sort of rotating reserve but that would mean people with even more longevity would be pulling reserve). It's the result of reducing the size of the airline (East) by 50%. Only growth will bring an end to high longevity people being on reserve in a reasonable timeframe. Since there's not expected to be much growth, if any, the next best is opening up the West bases to East F/A's which will allow transfers/displacements and allow those lucky enough to get out west to get off reserve.

Look at it this way - furloughing by where the surplus is instead of by seniority would keep reserve from becoming so senior since some more senior people would be furloughed. The current system guarantees that the most junior will get furloughed while more senior people become reserves. See how good out of seniority furloughs could be.......

Jim, I respect 99% of your posts. I understand what you are saying but this is an issue I have lived though for 7 years. It's a never ending nightmare. Sorry, I find it unfair and so do many others.

It's an issue I have absolutely no right butting in on, but I couldn't resist pulling everybody's chain by just following the idea to it's logical conclusion.

If your a junior flight attendant and I use the word junior loosely, your better off living in a Winnebago and traveling around from base to base like a jolly tinker. You could become a squatter like in Ireland and live right on the lawn at the airport. Hell we already have people sleeping on Aerobeds in the annex crew room. Wait have you ran into Mona in her house coat yet with her curlers on and cold cream? You'would swear it was Mrs roper crusing the halls.

The heat makes my hair dry and unmanageable. Sitting in the terminal watching the stepford stare and getting dirty looks on my 2 hour sit is enough. I like to get out as fast as possible.

Not all of them are like that. But I love my little sits in PHX and walking through the terminal, and whenever I get a dirty look or a "stare" I just act like the red headed Brit you posted above. After all she is my idle. Why anyone would be intimidated by the West employees I have no idea, whenever I encounter an a$$ within this company I just start talking like I have a few screws loose and move on!!!!

PIT DISPLACEMENT AWARDS

The PIT displacement awards are available on the hub at:

http://thehub.usairways.com/divisions/oper...light/PDF/2007/
publications_PITDisplacementAwards_Nov2007.pdf

The awards listed on the hub include both active and inactive Flight Attendants.

Below is the breakdown of active PIT Flight Attendant displacements by month and base:

JANUARY FEBRUARY MARCH
PIT- PHL 12 128 71
PIT - CLT 8 41 35
PIT – DCA 0 10 3
PIT – LGA 0 1 0
PIT – BOS 0 0 0

The closure of the PIT domicile has a lot of moving parts associated with it. The majority of PIT flying will move to CLT and DCA beginning in January. The Separation Package bid will not close until December 12 with release dates for those awarded a Separation Package beginning in March. In an effort to limit further displacements, it is anticipated that VPLOA and TDY will be used to balance domicile staffing in the coming months. More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.
