It's always about the money. This is not a "not-for-profit" organization. 😉

That depends on your point of view - there are some on this board who think the company is headed for a not-for-profit scenario.

What I was saying is that in essence - the US/AW "Merger" was an acquisition - it doesn't matter that many believe that the money to make it happen came from the US side of the house. At the end of the day - all of the old US Management is gone - the old US business model is gone - the business strategy of old US is gone - and the AW folks are in charge. So call it want you want - and belive what you will about why it happened.

Do you honestly believe that USAirways was in as bad shape as the executives said we were. It was all a ploy to rape the employees. Two trips through the bankruptcy system.

If we were in such bad shape how come we're immediately profitable and the majority of the profit came from the east. Figure it out ...Westies.

It's going to be a long, hot summer. Best of luck.........

Your opinion is wrong!

All of the financial adjustments were done in the two bankruptcies. Were you going to take another significant RIF and paycut, get rid of more planes, find more foolish billionaire investors to lose money and have a third trip through bankruptcy? "US brought most of the financial backing to the merger" ???!!!???? WHERE DID YOU GET THAT OPINION? Your only alternative was liquidation. The financial markets knew this. AWA,Parker, and the new financiers were, what is known in the business, the White Knights that came to the rescue. They took a chance that the sum of the parts, with a commensurate amount of employees to run the smaller operation, when cleaned up and trimmed, was a greater value then the few valuable parts, such as the shuttle, gates and slots in DCA,LGA,BOS,the PHL international operation, and little else. You would have been parted out and liquidated and the only crew members with jobs would have been the Shuttle pilots like EAL, and maybe some international crews like Delta accepted from Pan Am.

Now, the risk they took, the single most important issue that all of the naysayers will be saying "I told you so" about, the horrible attitude of the remaining USAir employees and their inability to deal with all of the misfortune that has befallen them, most of it beyond their control and a result of baaaad management and 9-11, could sink the airline.

For those of you who desire to torpedo this place because the seniority integration did not go your way,,,,, Shame on you! With the operation truly 100% functional, and all of the merger related integration problems out of the way, this place could be a real winner and we, as employees could be too. There have been some casualties. Those at the end of their careers may run out of time. Those furloughed may not benefit as much, but, the majority of us can make a real go out of this airline. Combining the attrition of the east and the growth plans of the west, will open up opportunities for advancement. We may just have to be patient.
Right out of Dougies mouth. Said it himself. Go onto the hub to the mechanics town hall...USAir bought HP!

All you two are going to do is cause me to pummel the first Westie I see, maybe it will be you. Watch out on the crew van.

Bring it on old man. But you'd better pack a lunch...........and a first aid kit.

It's not about the money. Whose management is still in charge? Who is calling the shots? Who is determining the business strategy? and on and on.

Money has nothing do to with it.

Yeah, and which side of the company is making all the profits? EAST -- 96% of the company's profits. Go look at the filing.

I’ll skip the legal/financial ease and put this into simple terms even a caveman can understand. In May 2005 the old POS US Airways was a fat cow dying of mad cow disease and everyone in the industry and Wall Street were anxiously awaiting for the carcass to be carved up into yummy little steak morsels. The chum was in the water and the airlines, like sharks circling above the carcass, were measuring up what bite to take first. AWA (aka Parker et al) realized the potential significant market gain, sorry, I mean AWA realized they could eat the whole cow at a fraction of the cost. The other sharks can get downright nasty and leave scars if you are not careful so no reason to fight them. So, they bought the cow to prevent from losing all that meat to the other vicious predatory sharks. Unfortunately, as it turns out, AWA did not know the meat was infected with mad cow and now we are going to need to purge ourselves of the disease somehow. You can help expedite that process by continuing on your path of self-destruction.

Seriously, I really hope you guys do all of the things I am reading because now I really do want your seat and that is the quickest way for me to get it. Eventually, the East operation will be a shell of its former self, and the West operation will have acquired all of that meat for pennies on the dollar. I love this business!

Lets face it guys, you are here today because of AWA so quit your F^&*ng whining and be thankful you have a job, or just leave and put yourself out of misery.

Get your facts right before you talk sh*t.
1. AWA was going out the door before US was
2. US had investors ready to revive it if something happened, AWA had nothing
2. AWA didnt save US, they saved each other
3. US is the reason we are continuosly making money

I think we're all very clear on your feelings😉

When they turn over the award, will all the westies come to the board whining? Or will they suck it up?

FLY,

ALPA will not overturn the award. There is nothing in the bylaws that allows that. But hypothetically speaking, IF it was overturned there would be a huge backlash from Tens of Thousands of other ALPA members. No one within ALPA except the East pilots supports DOH integration.

I know AFA has a DOH merger policy and it seems to work for you gals/guys. But you really have to talk to a pilot to understand the unique and very important differences that makes DOH a non-starter.

If this was SOOOO unfair, don't you think there would be a large outcry from every ALPA member? This award sets a strong precedent for the inevitable future consolidation. It affects every single ALPA member. If it is so unreasonable, the pilots of UAL, DAL, NWA, and every other ALPA airline would be up in arms by now. They are not. That should be your strongest indication of the collective opinion of ALPA.

Why do you think the Delta pilots fought so hard against a merger with US? Why do you think UAL pilots made a pre-nup a condition of any merger with US. Because we all know that their intention is to push, manipulate, force, or use any means at any cost to get DOH in order to repair their disfunctional career at the expense of others. This has always been their intention. And it is playing out EXACTLY as many of us anticipated.

I'll humor you with a response. Even if, somehow, "they" overturn the award, ALPA Merger Policy is still in effect and requires the two sides to either negotiate an agreement or go to binding arbitration. Care to guess what the next arbitrator will award? Heck, I'm game. Are you?
