All I ever hear from the East is :"don't you know how much we suffered?" and "take care of us" and "we deserve......"
Well, too freaking bad, its a job, you can leave at any time if you don't like it.
At AWA, we had lots of problems, but we never felt that our job was entitled to us. Maybe that is a reflection of geography and the lack of the union mentality in a very low union state.
Here is the deal, its a job. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't let a job define your life. If you are unhappy with your job, move on, if you are unhappy with your life or spouse, move on. But don't speak for others that may be happy with their job or life.
Mergers suck, we at AWA lost our identity, our esprit de corp, our fighting advantage we all gained by proving so many experts wrong who counted us out over and over since 1983. We aren't all that happy that we got saddled with a long time underperforming airline that had a serious culture and attitude problem and militant, unhappy unions. I know you had sucky managment, I know that life sucked for the East. But, without the merger, you would have no job, and that would really sucked.
So, everyone, just suck it up and focus on the future. If you don't want to, and want to just whine about the past, then leave, honestly, you will more happy in another line of work, leaving a bad situation is a very liberating thing. If you aren't ready to leave for another position, go out and get the training you need for a new career, the opportunities are out there, but they are of no good unless you persue them.
Plenty of folk want to work for the airlines, they will gladly step in and work your jobs, if you are unhappy, and can't feel that you can effect a change, just leave, there are all kinds of high paying jobs out there.
I've seen more cohorts of mine leave the company after the merger, they are sick and tired of negativity that has infected the airline since the merger from the easties.
Too bad, they are the folk that built AWA, they are battle tested and good people, but they are just sick of the fact that the AWA "Can Do" culture has been replaced by the entitlement culture of the East.
//rant off, I don't care what you think, that is my opinion.
