Don't remember anyone saying anything about it....but I guess when the pulled down FLL, they pulled the plug on EYW also???? What happened to those flights. Guess another bright sandbox idea?

Its seasonal and out of MCO now..

the flights were empty anyway in the off season

actually we held our own in the off-season. Th/Fr/Su we'd fill the E170 to acceptable levels.. but Tu/We we'd have flights booked to 10.

Delta doesn't do many changes during the off season with flights to ATL and I think US would do well with nonstops to CLT, but with the Bombardier/USAir agreement on hold, I doubt PSA will be getting any more CRJ 700s soon.

I have nonrevved on the FLL/EYW flights during March...as a premium spring break destination I still got on each flight and there has always been 5-10 seats open on each flight. Now if US could utilize a 1x CLT/EYW...They can pull it off because they are wasting that aircraft on a CLT-PNS//FERRY TO MCO//MCO-FLL-CLT-FLL-MCO//FERRY TO PNS/GNV then to CLT.

What would the weight restrictions be on an EYW-CLT flight? With the runway lenghth at EYW, I wouldn't think they would be able to take a full load of pax/bags & fuel. I'm not sure what, if any penalties DL has on their EYW-ATL flights.

Q400 would do it! ;-)

I miss the Piedmont Dash 8 flying in Florida! And from what I hear, a bunch of buisness folks miss it too!

OCC actually gave us a few CLT/EYW flts when MDA had issues. We could do 36 pax and 40 some bags on a PSA CRJ 200... and on the EYW/SRQ CRJ-700 flt we had no restrictions.

As ALGFLYR will tell ya, we took tons of DL bags on the MDA E170. Some DL flts out of EYW could take maybe 60 pax but NO BAGS... it would all depend on the wind, runway conditions, and fuel. I remember on our first MDA flt, we had Capt. Armas.. our station mgr was nervous to ask him how many bags we could take, we were expecting him to tell us "50" or so, as we're used to huge restrictions, and when he said "130" we had DL come to the back of the plane and we got about 60 bags in that rear bin for them! I don't think a Sunday ever went by that USAirways E170s weren't packed to the gills with DL bags.

We've had the Dash 8 come in, but that was mainly for employee evac flights for the annual 4 hurricanes that hit.

The last ops were DCA-MCO-EYW-FLL-EYW-FLL-EYW-MCO-DCA with a 2 hour sit in MCO on the return. At one point, we had flow thru from CLT in addition, so we'd have CLT-FLL-EYW-FLL-EYW-FLL-CLT and did quite a few thrus out of EYW. Granted the CR2 can only take 38 in the summer and 45 in the winter, FLL would always fill it to CLT... infact, FLL loved it when we had IRROPS because it meant an extra section to CLT for them!

I miss those days when they ran the dash-8s in Florida too to the Bahamas out of PBI, I must have been like 13 years old or something wow 🙂

In the end, it was CCAir and Air Midwest. As JO started to strongarm the CCAir pilots for failing to abide by his ERJ pay scale, YV slowly killed the airline... I think that the FLA ops were the last Dash 8s that "Mesa" flew for USX until the merger (HPX).

Air Midwest tried their best to make Florida work, but it was all ran from Wich..nix.. err The Glass Palace. The revenue/inventory guy had about 50 other markets to watch over and YV just couldn't make it work -- FLA & the Islands require a lot of TLC and monitoring.

Then again, Air Midwest only lost $250k a route every quarter in and out of EYW!

Dont give tempe any ideas. I can see it now. They will put a 86 seater on it and then sell it to 90. Knowing that it will be restricted to 50. Then they will strand all this people and ruin there vacations. As Douggie says were in it too sell seats.

Tempe already does this...on my upcoming PHL-MAD flight...they have overbooked by 48 already...
