What's new

FedEx acquired one USAirways Boeing 757 jet

Have there been any discussion on connecting people on the east coast with direct flights to Hawaii maybe out of CLT or PHL!
I do believe Delta has a direct flight from ATL.

They Do, I Just Passed The Gate In ATL..777 To HNL @ Around 3:00pm

I flew USAir CLT-MCO in April of '93 on a buddy pass and it was a brand new 757. Smelled like a new car!

No It Smells Like!! Use Your Imagination!!

700UW...

Thanks for the info.
So looks like the 332 could do PHL-TLV.

But asia would be a problem except for PHX-NRT.

Still, I wonder about the possibility of ordering a few 777's and going for it on Int'l expansion oportunities. Do you know what the lag time is right now between order and delivery for 777's?

Thanks again.

I know US is more likely to get Airbus due to comminality ( and price ). I would hope if nothing else history has taught management that acquiring an airplane with marginal range/payload capabilities for present and future routes ( in the name of buying cheaper ) will result in paying more in the long run . Buying the A330-300 at a time when we should've been buying 777-200ER's

When It came to US and the 757 , as we all know previous managament promptly canceled the remaining 757 order in favor of the A320 series. Those remaining 7 757's would have been nice to have these days .

If I remember correctly, years ago HP used to operate 747's PHX/HNL/NRT. From what I understand, the load to HNL were heavy, but mostly empty from HNL to NRT. Anyone on the west side remember that or shed any light on it? Was it dropped after HP bankruptcy? Would be nice to have somethng bigger than the 330's on Intl routes.
That route was started right after the gulf war started, but before our BK. The Japanese government had just issued a warning to its citizens' to NOT fly US carriers.

The route PHX-NRT was sold to NW as part of our emergence from BK and we shed the leases on the 747's at that time as well.

610 had "Ideas that Fly" in script under the cockpit on the fuselage on both sides of the plane.
Aircraft 610 is also the "highly decorated" airplane that Charlotte the 250lb Pot belly pig chose to fly on several years ago on the PHL-SEA route. SQUEAL!honkhonk  "Ideas that Fly" may have been the original moniker but a color pic of BABE would have been a good laugh too! What a shame to see such a Historical Ship leave the fleet...

Range (w/max. passengers) 12,500 km.(metric) 6,750 nm.(imperial)

For example, PHL-TLV is 5760 miles.

PHL-NRT is 6740 miles

PHL-PEK is 6870 miles

PHX-PEK is 6500 miles

Those are still-air distances, though, and nm aren't Imperial miles. Probably anything over 6000 statute miles is really pushing it, especially from PHX given that it is very hot, even at night, for much of the year.

The 767-200ER could probably make the PHX-NRT run. It is said to have a 6600nm range. This would probably be pushing the envelope, however, with severe weight restrictions due the the temps in PHX. I thought the A330-300 only has a range of 5500nm or so. The A330-200's have a range of somewhere around 6500nm , assuming LCC is still geting them.
