A passenger travelling in first class had his personal headsets with him when he was on the a/c and forgot them as he deplaned. Realizing his mistake he went back to get them and the F/A told him they were found and given to the Utility on the a/c. Low and behold the headsets disappeared. The company then had to reimburse him for the headset that cost several hundred dollars.

Funny Utility does not take lost articles, those are given to the gate agent.

And where are the facts to support this alleged event?

My flight attendent last week had $100 stolen out of her purse in PHL by the cleaner or catering, cleaners stole my cell phone out of the cockpit last month, Advise all crew crew members to watch you stuff going through PHL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And how do you know it was utility or catering?

Reminds me of an incident several years ago.

I was working on a DC-10 when the Supervisor came up to see what was going on. I was signing the book. We were standing in the front of First Class with the Supervisor informing the Flight attendant of something. When I was done we turned around and the Supervisor saw a magazine sitting on a seat by the L-1 door. He says "I've been looking for this" and sticks it in his pocket, two seconds later a passenger comes out of the lav, goes to his seat and starts saying "Hey, where is my magazine?" When I think of the look on my supervisors face I still laugh. He told the guy "I didnt see it" and ran off the plane, as he asked the FA I simply walked off too. I couldnt stop laughing and asked why he didnt just give it back, he said he was too embarrassed.

Facts are that the flight attendant told the pax she gave the article to the utility person and then all of a sudden it comes up missing. Just because you say utility doesn't take it doesn't mean they didn't take this item. What kind of facts do you want? I know for a FACT that the pax received several hundred dollars in compensation from US Airways to reimburse him for his loss.
Here's some more FACTS for your file. He also was missing several CD's that were also taken. You want the titles too?

The fact is that all Flight Attendants know to give lost articles to the gate agent beyond that it is common sense because utility can not make an announcement in the terminal whereas we all know and have heard the announcements for a passenger to return to the gate for a lost article....... We give the agent seat info so they can try to find out what passenger.

The fact is in this case the Utility person took the headsets and personal property of the pax and stole them. Just because procedures are in place doesn't mean they are followed.

I dont give anything to the gate agents, they will keep it for themself. If I decide to give it back, I go up and have the gate agent page the person to call the gate then I personally return it to the passenger. Either that or if the item has contact info on it (wallet, cell phone etc) I contact them myself. Too many times I have seen the agents with the item a few days later, or they just leave it on the gate podium for someone else to steal.

This whole thing does not seem right anyhow, it is only accusations and in my 16 years I don't ever remember a passenger being reimbursed for a lost article left on a plane.

I f you are so good with your so called "facts", then you should also realize that utility is assigned to a certain gate or group of gates. Therefore, it should have been easy to track down the utility person and question him or her.

I once left a PDA on a US airplane, and realized it just before they had begun boarding the next flight. I called res who connected me with the gate, and the agent had the unit and brought it out to me. Needless to say I could begin breathing again.

For every bad there's usually more good--or at least so I would like to believe. Let's all take a deep breath and try to remember that shall we???

My best to you all...

only two people on the plane ,I tracked down one but not the other

Hmmm. Something strange about this. Why would the FA have went through the cabin picking up items if utility was there to clean it?
Could be some other possibilities. It could be there never was a headset to begin with. Which would make the passenger a liar and a thief. How does a headset cost "several hundred dollars"?
Could be the FA assumed utility took it when in fact another passenger was walking through first class could have taken it.
Could be the passenger dropped it somewhere outside the aircraft and someone else picked it up or had it stuffed somewhere and didn't remember where he put it.

A lot of assumptions here.

Assume= Ass u&me.

Personally, I would not have paid this passenger a penny. It is after all his fault for leaving it there to begin with.

Bose noise canceling headsets cost over $200 and I see lots of pax with these on every single day!
