Wallets, I take up to the gate agent and wait until they page the owner.

Wallets and purses are different procedure. Best I can remember, these items are suppose to be turned in to the nearest station where it's suppose to be turned over to a manager. At that point the manager should open it to locate any ID of the owner. Attempt to contact the owner. Any cash is suppose to be removed and replaced with a station check. The cash is to be deposited to US. All of this in the presence of another manager or two to verify nothing is removed that's not on the level. The item is then to be locked in the station safe till the disposition is known.
I can't recall a single case where a wallet/purse that was turned in failed to be claimed and returned.

Cell phones, frankly are a pain in the ###. We had boxes of them. Some worked, most didn't. About once a week we shipped them to central baggage.

Oh, one other thing. If the wallet/purse or any high value artice is to be flown on a flight to the customers city for pickup. It's suppose to be put on a PDQ airway bill so the shipment can be tracked.

Fatherof2,

Don't confuse MrAeroman with the facts.

It is probably the stupidity of the company. Pay off passenger and it is sitting in lost and found.

That could very well be the case.

700....when have you ever dealt with the facts? You wouldn't know a fact if it bit you on the end of the nose.

Is that the best you can do? You have provided not one fact that this occured.

Seems bogus to me and others on this thread.

I gave you the facts. You just choose to do the typical 700 dance and choose to dispute it. If you want to check yourself go ahead. Supposedly there is an investigation going on by someone in maint. Maybe it's time for you to do what you preach to others. Get informed before you open your mouth about something you know nothing of.
I know for a fact the money was paid and that the F/A gave the items to a utility person. Do yourself a favor and get informed.

This is what you claimed you did:

Main Entry: fact
Pronunciation: 'fakt
Function: noun
1 : a thing done:
3 : the quality of being actual : ACTUALITY <a question of fact hinges on evidence>
4 a : something that has actual existence  b : an actual occurrence 5 : a piece of information presented as having objective reality
- in fact : in truth

This is what you actually did:

Main Entry: ac·cu·sa·tion
Pronunciation: "a-ky&-'zA-sh&n, -(")kyü-
Function: noun
Date: 14th century
1 : the act of accusing : the state or fact of being accused
2 : a charge of wrongdoing

Maybe the flight attendant just said that the item was given to utility.
Maybe the flight attendant actually stuck it in his/her bag.
Maybe I'm just stirring the pot.

The problem is 700 can't stand to think that one of his beholden little minions would actually do what they did and he'll fight to the bloody end to defend, deflect and degrade to get the crosshairs off of the truth. It's okay for him to provide the same amount of details that I provided and people are expected to take it as gospel but if someone else uses the same standards they are the one stretching the truth in his "unique" view of the world.

That type of "Blind Defense" is part of the reason that union membership is in decline in the USA. The American Public is essentially fair minded. Hell they forgave Nixon, but the idea that someone who is not carrying their fair share of the load is just inherently wrong and violates their sense of fairness.

Unions with a Duty of Fair Representation have created the perception that they protect and even encourage bad employees. This violates that same sense of fairness that is the cornerstone of the psyche of the US citizen.

Isn't our court system based on this Duty of Fair Representation. If I recall, (from my years as a police officer) a defense attorney, Court appointed, must represent their clients even if they believe they are guilty.

Our great country has been built around these idealogies. Remember, you are innocent until proven quilty!

This thread is about an item left on a plane and the resulting outcome. Please stop the union/personal discussion in yet another thread. Thanks.

Of course you're correct, But I was referring to 700UW's knee jerk reaction whenever a union member is involved.

He immediately jumps to the defense as others immediately assume the worst. We know little right now. Let's allow the system to work before we rush to judgement.

Bob...it looks like all that can be found out has. There was an investigation and basically they can't determine who was working the a/c when the f/a gave the headset to the utility person. It was a Bose headset. They are very pricey and he also had several cd's missing. This incident occurred in Nov. and the investigation is still dragging on despite what 700 says. This should have been dealt with months ago but it was bungled. Now it's way too late for anything to happen to anyone so someone got themselves a very nice set of headsets and the pax got himself a brand new set of headsets all courtesy of UAIR and a dishonest utility person.
What I can say for a fact is I know the person got reimbursed the money from the company in the amount of several hundred dollars. He just got the checks.

You are posting something that cannot be proven, show me one atom of evidence that there was a dishonest utility person who stole a headset?

You have no proof, just someone telling you a story, you would be laughed out of court with the lack of evidence you have.

Funny, no one in utility back in November was even questioned about stealing a headset.

And the lead and the foreman keeps of record of who is assigned to each gate. Funny you failed to mention that piece of information.

You are truly clueless 700. Where's your proof no one was questioned? It's a true story despite your diatribes to say otherwise. You take the cake. No wonder the IAM got it's butt handed to it in negotiations with people like you at the negotiating table. You're a laugh a minute!
