Getting Ugly In Phl

You want an extra person in an apron for whatever reeason, call back one of your thousands of laid off F/As.
There's no slippery slope here, Light Years - nobody's job was taken. This wasn't a trend showing that management can just step in and take a job. Any rational person would see Doug's action as honorable.

This was a CEO getting his hands dirty in the trenches to see what it's like for the rank and file. Why is that so hard for you to fathom? Are you saying that the furloughed F/As would look at that as a violation of their agreement and, in the strictest terms of the CBA, file a grievance?

It's totally a slippery slope. US used to staff 737s and Airbus narrowbodies with 4-5 F/As, and the widebodies with up to 14 for service. What's to stop them from saying "oh, we're going to put management folks on to be jolly and learn the trade wink wink" and staff all of those flights above minimum?

I would say that yes, if it continued and was a regular thing, the furloughed F/As would indeed see it as a huge violation. This type of nonsense just doesn't go over when you have made thousands unemployed.. "Look at me, I'm a rampie! Look at me, I'm a flight attendant, take a picture!" Not cool at all.

Besides, if anyone wants to know what it's like to be a U F/A, putting on an apron and slinging a coke or two isn't the true experience. Spend a month living on a little over a thousand dollars, and celebrate each year with a furlough.

Ok, so what if they said, well the widebodies are minimum staffed but we're going to put four more people on there just to serve, from management or foreign nationals or whatever. The flight is minimum staffed, it's not taking anyone's job, right? It sucks to have to think like that but it IS taking someone's job. You want an extra person in an apron for whatever reeason, call back one of your thousands of laid off F/As.

It's totally apples and oranges and you should realize that.

You clearly haven't seen the grapefruit that is US Airways. 🙄

Yeah, it's not too hard to imagine managers lurking around the ramp for 5 days waiting for the chance to pounce into a hot cargo hold for no good reason other than to yank the chain of some rampers.
Yeah.

A very funny mental picture. I'm certain this happens all the time. 😀

I would guess that Doug is seeing more then enough.

The apron-wearing exec in question is not Doug Parker, but Anthony Mule, VP of customers.
I would NOT want to serve w/him on a flight.
I have not heard of Doug doing this, altho I have heard he always visits w/the FD and is friendly and accesible to the cabin crew.
If he wanted to wear my apron and serve, I think that would be fun!

I think these things just fall under the category of "if it's questionable, don't do it."

These things have never really been questionable to us. We don't screamand complain about every little thing. We save our energy for things that really matter, and an exec in an apron on occasion is one of them.

Well that's understandable as you've yet to be outsourced.

Res- outsourced overseas.

Aircraft maintenance- outsourced

Ramp in outstations- outsourced

Flight Attendants and pilots- Outsourced to Republic and that's just the beginning.

delldude, there are A LOT of good fairies at US. 😛

That's not going to over well with the 6000+ Flight Attendants that are on furlough. 😱
[post="309102"][/post]
How many are willing to come back to work one leg and then return to furlough?

I'm sure among those 6000 there is one with more common sense than to be bent out of shape by this. Good grief!

No one is going to staff any flight above minimum for any reason.

This is your wake up call.
