Getting Ugly In Phl

I agree Happy however you have alot to learn about Philly - It's not like the cheesesteak honey - good to the last drop - the meat there is tough with alot of marbling - if you know what I mean, Philly is tough in general and people don't take things lightly - You might want to change your handle after doing a PHL RON, Welcome to the new USAir - we have many different cultures from the west (PSA) to the hills of PA with Allegheny to the southern blue ridge mountains of the carolinas with Piedmont and then we got a bit of the Fabulous TRUMP and now AWA from the flat desert - so if you have never dealt with attitude from the NE - not everyone but most - you are in for a shock - STAND CLEAR - Welcome to Philthadelphia!! Get on Board - Phoenix we have a problem!!!!

Then why is Phili one of Wn's most prifitable city and they don't have these issues?

Now there's the $64 question...why indeed. I think we all know the answer.
How many times can it be said. How can they maintain essentially the same level of service all over the country? Simple answer, harder to achieve...it is crucial to the integrity of their reputation, and their schedule. They respect their employees and their employees respect them...they all have a singular focus...kill the customers with kindness, kill the competition with efficiency.

GalleyHag, you are obviously impressed by Anthony Mule, but IMO, he is a big part of the problem in the customer service division.
He absolutely can not be trusted. He is all talk and show.

Actually it had nothing to do with Anthony Mule...the point was no one cares if he or anyone else in mgmt helps out that is non union.

As someone who doesn't have a dog in this hunt, it seems to me that you should all stop and think about the future of the new US Airways. What are the chances that you will survive and thrive when you can get 16 pages of comment (and insults) in less than 48 hours on an issue as minor as management slinging a few bags? It seems that you would be thrilled that they are out doing some real work instead of sitting in the office thinking up the next "improvement" to your job.

When I was at Texaco, there were still a number of WWII veterans. They had a saying when us "young folk" would want to start a war with another department (or management)--"Is this a hill you want to die on?"

I am increasingly concerned over the future of this company, based on what is demonstrated here. At this rate, WN / JBlue doesn't have to worry about Airways at all...they'll self destruct. The business climate airlines are in today absolutely mandates cooperation from the whole team, or you're extinct as soon as the money's gone...forget about making any more. The "cultural clash" everyone is concerned about in this merger...may well be the death sentence if you guys don't pull it together. And what a terrible waste of what may well be your last oportunity.

If you ask flight crew members they will tell you the problem in the airline is Philly.

The ramp in PHL is a mess. The attitudes stink. Yes there is broken equipment and other problems, but the filth, grime, and lousy attitudes get the flight crews down. You have to call for everything, no-one wants do their job. We can't get anyone to meet the airplane and park us.

Could it be staffing? maybe. Could it be attitude. Maybe. More likely it is both.

The same airline runs in PIT, CLT, BOS, DCA, and LGA. The ramps are cleaner, the place doesn't stink like garbage, the equipment is not treated as harshly. Yes I watch the way the baggage folks drive around the carts, loaders and tractors. They are treated with much more respect in other stations. A while back I watched an employee move carts buy moving them with his ramp tug and line of baggage carts. Just slow down and plow into the mess to make way. The pushed carts bumped into a lav truck. What a great way to run a hub.

If this management can fix Philly, they can fix the airline. If they can't fix Philly we are going to fail.

Yes, I know all about PHL...and I know of the attitudes/morale of the station as it compares to the others. I will go out on a limb and suspend my preconcieved theories of what the problem really is...but I find it extremely hard to believe that as big a money maker as PHL can be, this new company will continue to squander the resource away...WN certainly isn't.
Too much revenue lies in PHL to let it go, so I suggest that the station folks in all capacities at PHL act like they want to work at this airline, or act like they want to be somewhere else...and then go be there. I've seen it all in PHL...I know what happens there, and I know (most) of the local employees there don't give 2 $hits either way....we can no longer afford to let that attitude ride.

elixir, not talking about letting it go, but rather "right-sizing" (oh we've heard that term before..think Wolfman). Anyway, the smart thing to do is cut back in PHL and move some flights to other hubs. Why should passengers from NY, New England connect in PHL to go to out west, Florida, or the Caribbean? Take them through CLT, PIT, PHX. This isn't about attitude, this is about making the flying experience for the customer what it should be. PHL is at critical mass and is flailing around miserably. It's time to pull back and fix the problems.

Sorry to disagree...the second we "pull back"PHL..it's gone. Have you forgotten BWI, MCO,FLL...all of CA...the list is endless...SWA has about 17 idle airplanes right now due to MSY...and they're licking their chops. Once you lose market share in a market....uphill battle getting it back, if at all. Further, "bypassing" PHL doesn't solve the problem...it avoids the problem...and I'll remind you, aside from WX, WN has few problems in PHL. Not trying to be argumentative at all here, I just think PHL needs FIXING, not avoiding.

Thats a great point. Instead of running STAND and FIGHT and fix the problems we can control. :up:

Management violated the CBA, would be no problem if management adhered to the CBAs they agreed too.

Just like it would be no problem if the some of our co-workers would adhere to the contract do the freaking jobs instead of disappearing all the time.
of it.

We shouldn't be always pointing the fingers at management for not following the CBA, the union workers themselves half the time don't even follow it.

You people amaze me.

Do you actually think it is right for management to break the very contracts with employees they agreed too?

Let them violate yours and see how you react.

YOU NEED TO GO AWAY. YOU ARE DUMB, JUST PLAIN DUMB AND STUPID. YOU ARE NEGATIVE AN HAVE NO VISION. THE ONLY THING YOU ARE GOOD FOR IS ALL THE FERTILIZER THT YOU PRODUCE.

last time i recollect there bucko...i took it in the can so this airline could live to die another day....if you don't like my attitude...kiss off.....you all voted for these concessions and now many are willing to let management do their work that they voted to uphold...you people make me sick.....
[post="308489"][/post]
ummmmm, you really think Mgmt is going to do your job??? Are you freaking ok up there in your head? Mgmt is not going to go out and do your job everyday. Man get a real grip on reality.

They just wanted to help out and see what the differences are and see what does and does not work.

no the answer is to abide by the contract that we've all voted to agree and the company signed off on...anything else is scab ass act by union members
[post="308502"][/post]
all I have to say is NW MX. Ummmmm they don't have jobs and most of them ran out of their strike fund and now looking for something else.

Our unions are dying and almost pointless now. I have been treated better my mgmt than our "union". All they want are dues and then they fight for all the slackers that we have to pick up the pace for. blank blank blank the union.
