US Airways Employees Receive First $50 Hat Trick Payout
December 1, 2005

Dear US Airways Employees:

Congratulations! We’ve just wrapped up the first month of Hat Trick, our operations incentive program, and we’re thrilled to announce that all mainline employees will receive a $50 incentive payout! This amount rewards our combined airlines’ third-place Department of Transportation (DOT) A14 finish among the major airlines for the month of October. The combined company posted an 81.2 percent on-time performance, ranking only behind United (83.0 percent) and American (82.1 percent).

In the other two Hat Trick measurements - baggage performance and customer complaints sent directly to DOT - we didn’t do as well, ranking 10th among the majors. In order for employees to receive the full Hat Trick payment of $100, we needed to place among the top three airlines in all three categories. November’s combined mishandled baggage ratio came in at 6.33; meaning a little over 6 of every 1,000 passengers filed a baggage complaint. On DOT customer complaints, the combined company had a 1.35 ratio, meaning more than one passenger of every 100,000 complained about our service directly to the DOT.

Show me the Money
Employees (up to managing director-level - that’s more than 35,000 employees!) will each receive their $50 in the next three weeks; however payment methods between our East and West operations still vary due to system integration work. Former America West employees will receive a separate check on Dec. 9, while former US Airways folks will see $50 added to their mid-month paychecks.

Express Results
On the Express side, unfortunately, Piedmont and PSA employees will not receive a payout. Their program - which is separate from mainline - pays if their A14 performance is higher than 82 percent, or if they beat the mainline performance in a month when mainline makes a payout. With a monthly A14 of 75.0 percent, they unfortunately did not make either goal.

Hat Trick Recap
Each month, we will calculate our combined airline’s A14 ranking (arrivals within 14 minutes of schedule) according to DOT statistics. We’ll then compare that number to all other major airlines (American, Delta, Northwest, Continental, United, JetBlue, Southwest, Alaska and Air Tran). If we end up in top three, all mainline employees will receive $50. If we are in the top three in each of A14, mishandled baggage, and customer complaints, employees will receive $100 for that month.

Thanks to each of you for contributing to a great kick-off of Hat Trick. While there’s always going to be room for improvement, we’re certainly off to a great start on a key driver - getting our passengers to their destinations, and doing so on-time.

We’re off to a great start!

Sincerely,

Al Crellin
Executive Vice President, Operations

I just hate it when someone can't compliment you without a little elbow to the gut. Leave that one sentence out and I would have thought that someone else wrote it.....but with that sentence in there.....it is definilty MPA.

Al.....
When do we get the memo from you and Paladini about being fired if we are seen sitting down? OOPS, Forgot...You are new person now. So sorry!

November looked good for the on-time third of the hat trick. West, with about 1/3 of total mainline flights achieved 85% while East's 2/3 of total flights achieved 83%. The composite should come in at about 83.33%.
