(I have been saying this for months Hawaiian is ripe for plucking they have the routes the equipment that they keep adding to the fleet. Our service in the pacific is a freaking joke. the ATA 757s are junk....If we gotta merge this should be out target we need wide body planes and route to the pacific Asian markets Japan South Korea Sydney etc
Read this report from the LA times)
I just flew on 905UW from PHL-PHX on a rare Thansgiving Day flight for this plane. I was shocked at the interior condition of this plane. Still cloth seats in coach, and standard chair seats for first. The plane was clean, but just old, worn down, and tired looking. It looked like someone had used the outside of the front coach lav as a walll for hitting tennis or golf balls. I can't believe US markets these planes to Hawai. I would never fly on this plane, coach or first to Hawaii with so many other options. This is not competitive at all, unless you want the cheapest price, which is not always the case.
Conversly, I have flown on 2 of the ex-ATA aircraft, as well as most of the older East 757's that have been reconfigured. I have flown in those planes in Y to Europe, as well as Y from LAX-PHL 2 yrs ago on another rare flight schedule for this plane, and from MBJ-PHL last year. Those 3/4 lie-flat Y seats are great. They have always worked, are just as comfortable as United & AA business seats on their 777 & 767's respectively. The interiors, of the East and ATA planes are not as worn, because the planes are newer. If this was a discussion over condition of the US 757's, I would argue that the older west planes are really junk.
However, on US at least, i would prefer a coach seat on the Airbus over Boeing any day of the week.
