Say it ain't so... Mr. 7, was wrong again in saying that they did nothing wrong!!!!

I hope they have soap-on-a-rope where they are going...

well now it will be up to a jury of their peers, not a

bunch of vigilante's from usaviation.

I wonder the particulars if this is true. I mean, it looks like the '22' was a non-negotiated item as far as the TWU was concerned in their negotiated joint statement with the IAM regarding withdrawing petitions.

Oh well, my guess is that 580 may have some newly 'created' union Boss slots that may come open.

If your allegation is true then it seems to me that the DA moved ahead because someone [insert TWU INTL reps here] wanted to press charges.

I wouldn't be surprised if the IAM bails out of their situation altogether and the 22 have to hire their own attorneys.

As for if they are guilty or not, a jury will decide that if it goes to one.

regards,

The IAM does not and will not represent them in any criminal proceedings, that is not the union's responsibility. They only represent them in the grievance process.

They physically assault people to intimidate and we're the bad guys because we want them to pay for their crimes.

What a warped view of reality.

Don't be so sure they won't.

Assume for discussion purposes that some can't pay for an attorney in any criminal proceeding. Also assume for purposes of discussion that there will be a civil suit for damages and the IAM will be a named by the plaintiffs as a defendant under the legal theory of agency. The member(s) who cannot afford lawyers may decide to let it be known they can't afford counsel and, rather then bankrupting the family they are going to plead guilty AND assert that they were instructed by people high in th IAM food chain to go to the hotel and disrupt the gathering.

Now, under that scenario how long do you think it would take the IAM (or it's insurer(s)) to find these guys good criminal attorneys?

If the IAM is sued they will represent the organization not individual members.

The IAM is not permitted by the Landrum-Grittith act to pay for a member's attorney for criminal cases.

Yes, but what happens if they are reprsented by counsel paid for by the IAM's insurer(s)? That insurer will argue in court that if they are not allowed to provide criminal counsel to the defendant(s) that their ability (the insurance company's) to defend their interests (again, the insurance compan) at a civil trial will be substantially impaired if the defendants were not to have counsel at the criminal trial.

I'm not saying this will happen, but it could happen.

ever hear of hearsay?

then you were there in the room?

you're the bad guys because in an instant you all became judge, jury and executioner.

You'd have us believe they were fired based on hearsay?

You're an apologist for thugs.

Well there is money directly paid and indirectly paid 700UW. You know that.
Every penny a union spends is accounted for under the Landrum-Giffith Act, every union has to file a LM-2 with DOL, corporations are not held to the same standards as a labor union.

From Just Plane News:

22 machinists charged
in Feb. airport brawl

Warrants were issued Monday for the arrests of 22 members of the International Association of Machinists, who are accused of aggravated and simple assault, conspiracy, making terroristic threats, and theft in connection with a Feb. 8 brawl at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott Hotel.
The union members, including three officers, are accused of assaulting organizers from a rival union, the Transport Workers Union.
Ten of those charged turned themselves in yesterday and the rest will surrender on Tuesday, said Charles Ehrlich, the prosecutor who heads the municipal courts unit.
Stephen "Randy" Canale, general chairman of the machinists' union branch that represents US Airways baggage handlers, said the union "does not advocate or condone violence." However, he said, "we discourage any rush to judgment based on incomplete accounts." [more]
