New thread for the week. Since this thread is so small I'm going to just extend the date.

To keep this thread on page one I'll start with a question. Who are we hiring and who's quiting? At my station we had three mech's quit recently. Hopefully they will post a bid Monday. I see a lot of bids go "NO BIDS RECIEVED". Who is the company able to attract and hire? How many stations are experiencing a loss of mech's seeking greener pastures? I suspect we lost our status as a top tier employer and now have become an entry level establishment for new AMT's? How many will stay and for how long?

With a 10 year top out it is hard to get anyone, even the fresh out of school expect better.

With the starting wage what it is they are not very likely to get many qualified applicants. In at least one of the stations they are hiring right out of A&P school. It really is a great opportunity for some of those younger guys, come to work at U, go through all the training offered, then move on to a better paying position.

 Recall for the laid off mechanic, is still open . Some come back to pick up travel and then leave.
The new guys pick up training and leave. FedX and UPS has been hireing. GE if you have engine shop time. Net Jets also. Roam ,NY ,HVM at the old Air force base. But they have forced OT. (Can't remember the name) Jet Blue was a place, after training. But they look bad at the moment.

Hey OLD GUY you old enough to be a HAWKER? The place we have lost a lot of mech's to is EMPIRE AERO CENTER at the old GRIFFISS AFB in Rome, NY. Many USAIR mech's got their A&P's just down the road at RIVERSIDE SCHOOL of AERONAUTICS then started with EMPIRE AIRLINES or hired on when PIEDMONT AIRLINES took over with the hangar in UCA. Then USAIR came along and closed the UCA hangar for the second time. First time was after ALLEGANY AIRLINES took over MOHAWK AIRLINES. The MOHAWK VALLEY is a great place to live. We use to have mech's in BUF, ROC, SYR, UCA, and ALB.

Old enough ,but a pure breed Allegheny.Worked for another airline in Phlly. Vietnam class of 72. Worked Cmh, Buf, Mdt, Cle,and Pit. Been up and back down in numbers. Iknow most of the hawkers and the womb to tomb, sons. And I have seen the unity go down the tubes with each merger. Short time left till 62, would have been sooner with the old 85 pt plan. But that is life. If I was younger I would have tried for one the jobs I posted this AM. I don't see much here.

Well boy and girls, with all this merger talk going on and the CoC removed from the contract, what do you think is going to happen? What kind of senority is left in the maint ranks at United? I know there is still quite a bit at U east, but as for the west it does not look so good. I did see in the new contract the west techs & related are now entitled to severance. Have a feeling it is not going to be pretty!!! Just curious.......

My sen. date is/was 5/22/89 I was laid offf out of PIT in 2005. I Personally don't think there's a snowballs chance in hell I'll be coming back anytme soon be it recall or my own free will. I will however say I do miss the airline biz. Lots of good memories!!!!

You should do some checking, If you have your A&P you could be back by now, if not you are close to a plant mtc recall. Believe they are into early Aug 1989 for recalls.

IF this merger goes thru [UA/US], which union will be left standing for the mechanics?? IAM or IBT ?? 😛h34r:

As a fleet member of AWA we are respectful of Maintenance. You fellas keep us flying! And you're a really nice bunch. I came on when Bill Johnson was in Phx. Bless his soul!

G## bless the numbers, left, to continue any part of this airline.

it will be ibt, hands down. UA doesnt like the iam, and it seems there are a good amount of people at US that don't think too highly of the iam.

Anyone know what percentage of heavy maintenance United does inhouse ?
Usair does approx. 50% inhouse..
