We still do progressive C-Checks, the airbus are all over night except for the C-11 which is a few days and the 737 C-Check is five days I believe.

More information from the IAM

Hey guys. I am new to the site and haven't figured out how to use the site yet so I hope I am getting this right. I am neither pro IAM or pro IBT. I am a junior mechanic with 5 years in the company so I know I will probably not be around much longer. However, I have been reading what has been posted on this site and it is funny how everyone is arguing their points for the IAM. As far as I can see from the below added information neither of the unions has really got their stuff together. However, as far as pay and benefits are concerned, I feel the IBT looks better than the IAM. The thing that worries me is being locked into a sub par contract until 2009 just doesn't make much sense. I may be wrong but that is how I feel. But looking at the below copied information seems to make sense to me to hope the IBt gets in.

YOU MAKE THIS TO EASY

I dont see how you passed the third grade? I'm toped out at $23.35 + $2.00 for lic. + .35 shift pay = $25.70 OH I work in the hanger just so numbers are the same. Just a wrench. IAM top out $22.77 + $1.00 for lic. + .00 shift pay =23.77 with your whooping 1% 2006,1% 2007, 2%2008, 2% 2009 That is $24.00/06 and $24.25/07 and $24.73/08 and $25.22/09 That is good math in 4 years you will still be .55 cents behind what I'm making NOW

That is $3536.00 less in 06, $3016.00i n 07, $2018.00 in 08, and $999.00 in 09 ==TOTAL OF $9569.00

Would you like to retrack your statement about PAY???

Now from your agreement Scope/Other

ITEM#1 SCOPE as I see it you got the S-Check by giving up the 757,767,and A330 and the Company may outsource a max of 50% REQUIRED Q-checks and any and all SHOPS/AREA as discribed in Attachment C this list has 33 shops on it.

ITEM#7 279 Minimum A/C " The scope and job security of the Jan 2003 Agrrment requiring the company to maintain a minimum fleet size of 279 total mainline aircraft will be ELIMINATED."

The more I read the more inpressed I am with you.

So lets see going with the IBT you loss WHAT?
Gain Pay , Vac, Sick pay, 401k,etc etc etc...
Staying with the IAM what do you gain?

Your math skills have'nt failed you....but with the lack of scope regarding the Airbus S-Checks and 50% of the B737-300/400's that the IAM's current agreement insures...you can bet your last dime that your prognostication of Not being around is going to be pretty darn accurate too. So what does the better pay scenario from 2006-2009 matter to a person with an almost assured Exit-Visa?

With only 5 years under your belt....you had better hope for a situation that insures as much Scope/Job security as possible....unless your soon to be needed exit strategy is going to Timco and doing work on your former companies planes at far less than what either the IBT or IAM contracts provide.

With only 5 years here....vote your job away if you wish?....it's your funeral

Correct Phanton!!!
Five years he will be history if heavy leaves, I believe the are mechs currently on furlough with U that have excess of 16 yrs. His five years may let him keep a job in Phl, Bos or Dca!! Lose the heavy and that extra buck a hour will not mean much to him..........

This says it all:

The IAM contract was abrogated both the ramp and mechanic and related in BK in Jan. 2005. The company gave the mechanics and related and ramp their final proposal for them to vote on after their contracts were abrogated. The leadership presented it for membership vote and the members ratified the company's final offer. If the membership would have voted it down, the IAM members would have and would have struck the airline.

It is the company who presented their final offer. It was the members themselves who could have voted it up or down by majority. I don't care what union you belong to...presented with the same scenerio, the obligation the leadership had was to send out the last final company proposal, after the judge allowed for abrogation of the IAM contract.

I personally do not believe the company acted in "good faith" with the IAM. And I believe that the judge did not consider the "parties acting in good faith" provision in an 1113 motion. There are reasons managment wanted the contract to be abrogated and why they motioned for an 1113:

A. They wanted the Utility outsourced, and they needed to eliminate over 1,000 jobs. Basically, their total elimination.
B. They wanted to outsource the mechanics work, furlough, and not honor the arbitration ruling.
C. They needed to dump the IAM pensions.

THere was no way the IAM could or would have settled or agreed to a T/A under the above conditions. So, the IAM ran out of time and the judge ruled for abrogation. THis is the same judge that approved the "Plan of Reorganization of an AWA merger in BK #2 and was also the presiding Judge in Bk #1.

Take it from there and put it together.

The IBT Have Kept US From Getting GREEDY and Have Helped us Negotiate Our First Contract,After Franke and The Boys Tried to Prevent a UNION from Entering AWA. They Have Become A AIRLINE Driven Union, and DO Have Some GOOD Contracts to Back What they Stand For. I am Sure If You Talk To A UPS Mechanic you will find out They Are Happy with them,(IBT). I Agree with Gonzo and The 5 Yr Tech The Differance's of Current contract $ DOLLARS,Compareing the Language and What it means for Money and Benifits,Hands down for The IBT,Union. Yes FOR IBT, Teamster's.

we keep telling you guys but you don't listen the current work will not leave under the ibt contract and that means the heavy checks that are done in house will stay read our contract!!!!! as far as the iam promising that all awa a/c will be brought back is a dream do you actually think they would spend all that money to spool back up those checks. Parker will fight it all the way. it would be tied up in courts for years.

My Quetion for all The Veteran's in Aviation Land Is When the N.M.B (National Mediation Board) Get's the Challenge of Mergeing the Two Contract's (UNIONS) and WE HAVE A VOTE,What Will The Contract LOOK LIKE?
That Is When We Should Be thinking of Getting out of the Sand Box AND Getting Organized and Start Producing a Fair Contract That The New US AIRWAYS can use to Benifit All Tech's. Like The Teamster's Have Been working on for the PAST TWO PLUS YEARS.
