Excellent post with an anaccurate timeline. I know a lot of people who felt this way. They all left to find other work because they had an option to dwell over it or leave.

What I'm sorry about is that AWA is merging with a company full of cry-babies. This merger won't work as none of the US employees will let it work. What a bunch of malcontents. Wipe your tears, blow your nose and get on with running an airline or LEAVE!

Barbee would you care to tell the members of this forum why the res center in Tempe has a such a high turnover rate or why they'll only hire kids just out of high school to work on the ramp at Skyharbor Airport and even the ones that do stay past their probation quit after after a year or so?

Face it, if America West was such a good place to work you wouldnt see so many people quitting and if they paid more you'd more than likely see most of those people using that extra money to buy a computer and post about how crappy the working conditions are at AWA.

DOES ANYONE FROM US HAVE A OPINION ON YOU MIGHT THINK THE SINORITY SHOULD BE BETWEEN AW/US? WE AT AW ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO COMPINE SINORITY WITH-OUT PISSING PEOPLE OFF. aLSO WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT A FENCE UP AT THE HUBS FOR 2 YRS. AFTER THE DEAL IS SIGNED? Can you please show me how anyone at US made $20 to clean a plane?

You won't be able to because the highest rate of pay before concessions was $17.13 an hour.

Once again don't let the facts get in your way.
[post="289558"][/post]
$17.13 is still more than what most teachers make. So what about that fact?

Clean a crapper or educate our young????? ummmmm which is more important???

Forget the kids, I have a shinny bowl! LOL

Oh and about your other long rambling post. You sound very disgrunted and upset, think about relaxing some and get a hobby besides going to BK hearings....

700 & many of the other U employees here at this message board represent the most disgruntled, angry, negative group I have ever come into contact with.

THEY DO NOT REFLECT THE ATTITUDE OF THE VAST MAJORITY OF HARD WORKING US AIRWAYS EMPLOYEES!

If they did, this airline would not be here today...

I agree with everyone here who feels that if your not going to be a part of the solution, LEAVE.

I look forward to working with all of the AWA folks and I am excited about the new management team.

I was replying to just one poster, and I agree, he doesn't represent all of US.

Here's hoping for a great airline that kicks some major ass!

(the Pittsburg bashing is because I'm not a Steelers fan, we don't have a professional football team in Phoenix, just the Cardinals)

This is an easy one.........Date of Hire
End of discussion. There is never a way not to piss off someone.

all these WN, B6 etc, i hope that costs rise at WN, and then they outsource their planes to some el salvador facility, and then have huge problems, with the planes blowing up on the runway etc
WN shall DIE !!!!
long live US !!!!!!!!!!!!

So let's see...because your management screwed up, you wish ill upon another airline?

Classy. 🙄

You're either part of the problem, or you're part of the solution. Talking like that, it's pretty easy for most readers on this board to figure out which side you fall on.

Well BarbeeTantrums.... I have to agree that U has it's full share of cry babies. What you have to realize is that it has been many years since we had a management team that wasn't in place just to sell us off. The management was not interested in running a long term profitable airline... just make it look good enough to pawn off. Well the powers that be have determined who that certain entity is.. AWA. So now we find that we are all in the same boat. I for one am not crying about it. I'm picking up another paddle to use with the other two that I've been using all along to keep this boat moving. I don't put any faith in men but I do put faith in God and I am sure that Doug Parker is the man God sent to make this thing work. I don't know what my future will hold as far as employment at U goes. Being in Maintenance at any airline is precarious at best any more. I do know that if the merger/buyout doesn't work (and I believe it will) it won't be my fault!

I cannot comment on the res center in Tempe as Ih ave never worked or visited there.

The comment, "they'll only hire kids just out of high school to work on the ramp at Skyharbor Airport" makes you a dishonest person. You make it seem that everyone else is turned away. You know it's not true but you decided to not tell the truth, thus making you a liar.

AWA does, in fact, hire many young adults. Unfortunately, the more reliable 30-50 year old crowd is a difficult group to hire from as most already have jobs.

Why don't these young kids stay? Let's look at the reasons:
1) They figure out that they have to work. They realise that it is extremely hot and the bags and cargo are heavy. These people have spent most of their lives in air-conditioned homes playing video games. They are lazy and weak.
2) They didn't realise that $7.50 to start was not a whole lot of money.
3) They have problems with people coming up to them and screaming, "PILL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR F-----N ASS!!!" when they screw up. No place for the thin-skinned. They would face the same treatment on the deck of an aircraft carrier if they had their head up their ass.
4) Sometimes, they are learning to be pilots and figure it is a leg up into the business or such foolishness. They soon realise that throwing heavy bags won't make them a good pilot and once you've seen one pretty airplane, you've seen them all.
When I was that age most of my thinking was done with my penis. I just followed him around wherever he went. So I don't understand the motivation of why they do what they do. Maybe it's the travel benefits. Maybe it's the glamour!

AWA would probably like more 30-50 yo range applicants. These guys stay for the long term and show a better work ethic. Most are married, some are retired military, the spouse is the breadwinner, on and on.

AWA also hires many Pacific Islanders (Samoans, Micronesians, Tongans, Filipinos, and others) who always stay for the long term. Personally, I think AWA should set up recruiting stations on the islands. They kick butt.

U just off-loaded a bunch of 30-50 year olds to make room for the islanders.

yessss indeed, the plan is working just fine!

My guess is that HP hires young 'ens b/c the ramp work - even though there is technical training/knowledge - is still considered "unskilled labor" and the rates should not be upwards of $20/hr. Heck...even at 16/hr, that totals over 33k per year which is pretty darn good as a ramper. The fact that you can make high-level pay in a low-level position just b/c you stick to that job for several years does not make sense. It's the same as the grocery store baggers in CA that had a strike b/c they were going to have to pay $20 more per month towards health insurance but at $20/hr pay, that is only one hours' worth of work. Why are we paying so much for these unskilled jobs? If you want to stay in the airlines and continue to earn more and more every year, look to higher positions or more skilled positions.

HP realizes that these are entry level jobs and pays accordingly. Hence they get 18 year olds. They seem to complain less.

Thumbs up on the Polynesians, the Samoan and Tongan workers are the best! Hard working, tough as hell, and they don't whine and moan.

Anyone getting into the biz who expects to become wealthy doing it is nuts!

I think we'd agree WN is the mack daddy 800 lb gorilla, yes?

Here's what their rampers make.

No express operations. No outsourcing. No furloughs since 911.

Now you know why CEO's want to cry WN, until it comes time to talk about wages.

Much like the Costco/Sam's Club analogy.
