Rumor has it that the new management will be removing the F snack basket in favor of their crappy HP snack mix.

Any confirmation of this from those in the know?

Oh no....please don't take away the snack basket!! The summer months removal of the chocolate thingamajiggers (you know the ones, with the creamy dreamy centers) is difficult enough to deal with.

and just when you thought the degradation of the so-called FC product could not get worse.....

NO, NO !!! Not the snack basket !!!!

Foam the Runway !!!

Been told that US will no longer offer the "First Class" ticket jackets either. **Gasp**. What are they thinking? I must have my dark blue FC jacket so everyone around me knows that I am traveling in FC!
Actually, maybe we should just change the name to CoachPlus? 😛h34r:

Wow. Kill the snack basket and you kill the airline for a lot of us frequent flyers. I'm about to take my first-ever long-haul F flight on US Airways (morning A321 SFO-PHL) and the redeeming value of US' F service is... the snack basket. The "snack mix" F that HP has is a joke. Doug will be hearing from the FlyerTalk crowd loud and clear if that happens. Voting with their wallet.

Those chocolate dreamy things are XOXOs... purser dug some out of her snack basket goody bag for me after a no-basket 20-min PHL-BWI hop in F... and I realized why people fly US F... it's for the XOXOs!

I don't understand why this airline thinks they can degrade F service even more and keep their frequent flyers.

If someone was really creative, they should be able to upgrade snacks thruout the plane by selling advertising space on the packaging.

Laugh, ha ha ha, but in reality, you are right--why call it FC when it is not? Why charge an "F" or an "A" fare when what you receive is not FC? Is the demise of the of snack basket a tragic event--no--but the point is that the FC product is so bad compared to other airlines charging the same fares for FC that it is a little incredible that US is making its product even worse. US would be better off changing the name of FC to business class or "bigger seats class" since they like to use generic labels because that is all it is. I feel sorry for the people who do not travel all that frequently who purchase a FC fare on transcons and who are inevitably disappointed by the service offerings--I'm not talking about the ice rattlers, I'm talking about people who expect a premium product for a premium fare.

Forget selling advertising space on the packages, how many little "mom and pop" type companies are there out there that are trying to break into the market with distinctive products? Get them to supply their products for the snack basket (or minimal charge) in exchange for exposing people to their product. They could take it as an advertising expense and write off and US could have some interesting items in the basket to offer.
You wouldnt have to have the same items all the time and if people really liked a certain product, US could wind up using them in a regular rotation of items. Seems like an easy way to differentiate the F product without too much work and very little added cost.

I have no idea if this is taking place since US West currently does not offer them (snack basket) but long and mid haul flights on US West have hot meals. The snack mix is handed out with the initial beverage service. Hope this helps....

For those who may not know about the US East snack basket, it contains a variety of snack items. Cashews, pretzels, potato chips, XOXO's (a lovely chocolate goodie), breakfast bars and biscoff cookies. Sometimes the items change a bit but it's very popular and my understanding is that it's offered on all flights in FC.

Would be a real shame to lose it. I was hoping to see those Yellow Screaming Zonkers added.

Why would they take it away?

$$$$$

By the way, those yellow zonker things were really good. And, I thought the snack basket was something that differentiated the US product from other carriers, particularly when the rest of FC, especially on long hauls, is not comparable. I don't eat much from the carbohydrate basket, but I think most FC pax do enjoy it.

Dea, do they still offer the what is in the snack basket at the snacking station in envoy? I wonder if that will be taken away as well.

Perhaps they can advertise 'Hugs and Kisses' cookies on the XOXO's wrappers!

If the New Management does indeed eliminate the F/C snack basket then by all means go ahead and get rid of First Class. Our F/C has been downgraded to a point to........"this is it, You've got to be Freakin Kidding Me!" and now you want to take away the snacks? I hope our valuable frequent flyers FLOOD Tempe with complaints and tell them BRING it Back or I won't be BACK. Low Cost is one thing Down Right Cheap is another. And while they are at it, GET OUT of The Star Alliance, you obviously DON'T BELONG!
