BTW, here is a link to an aircraft sales/lease page. I think these are the birds. Same engines et al:

B757-200 Three ETOPS aircraft available for sale. RB211-535E4B engines. Manf. 2000. 219Y pax configuration. Contact information.

Lots of older vintage 767s available too. Note, not a SINGLE A330 or A340 available.

I wonder if we could retro-fit 2-3 of our current 757's to make them ETOPS qualifed airplanes. This would provide the back-up needed for the 3 airplanes that would be flying TA routes.

I think this is a great deal for US and our TA service. My only workd of caution is to make sure you have a back-up plan for any problems that may arise with the airplanes. MTC happens. Be prepared for when it does happen.

How about A330-200's? Wasn't that part of the deal with Airbus during financing for this merger?

I would have liked to see US adding used 767's or A330-200's for more transatlantic flying. Atleast these 757's are a good start.

How old are these birds?

A332 are not really suitable for these markets, thats why i think
the 757 is a winner and a lot of airlines realise this, look at CO, they go everywhere in Europe with them....

A-330-200s could not be produced and delivered in time. There are none available on the market.

The 757s are 2000 production IIRC.

It will be interesting to say the least. Great start.

Will we have to do proving runs with the 757 to Europe? Or because we already fly with the 767, we will already be approved to fly these airplanes on these routes?

guys let's not get too excited. remember i said that " i hope this was true" until there is a press release then i still have my 5% doubt that this will happen. but it looks like it's 95% true. but i still gotta see the press release. no press release ,no truth ,still a rumor.

i just e-mailed scott kirby about it. just now and he quickly responded.
answer is 1st question is second

a:It's a possibility but far from a certainty

Subject: ata 757's

Q:hey scott, there is a HOT rumor that we are getting some ATA 757's and
deploying them to europe. and new routes to lisbon ,milan, and stockholm.
any comments on this would be nice. i totally understand if you can't
comment but i thought i would give it a try.
peace,

Well, if its the 757 going to Europe, the good news for the F/A's is maybe those trips will go junior! Not enough room for our "widebody" F/A's to fit down the aisle of a narrow body A/C! Couldn't resist! 😛

I know there were definate plans at CCY. I spoke to someone who was very involved in fleet planning and resources, and they absolutely had plans for it.

What ever became of that Brussels flight they had a few years ago? Was it worse than the AMS flights?

From what i heard yes.

AMS is hindered by the fact that its KLM's home base, and BRU was useful since Sabena was alive and well back then.
