What's new

Merger with NW ?

Yes, a merger with NW does make the most sense as there is very little overlap in operations. Also, it would put aside the China issue as they have been in the Orient for about 60 years.

Also, I think they have the Dreamliner on order. God, I hope so. That is one sweet bird.

NW would be very bad.

US has not solved its own labor woes and labor relations are worse at NW than at US.

They have scab mechanics, which would just lead to more trouble and run by a CEO who told their employees who are facing layoff to go "Dumpster Dive".

There are still labor problems from the NW/Republic Merger.

One person IMO no matter how great could change the corporate culture of Cheap that emanates from Tempe.

There is a difference between cheap and cost conscious. Example being US and WN.

One seeks to have "Low Costs" by being cheap in all things.

While the other seeks to achieve the lowest cost through working smarter not harder and knowing the true value of their employees

One has been wildly successful for 30 plus years both on the balance sheets and in Customer and employee satisfaction.

While the other has some of the lowest wages, poorest Customer Satisfaction ratings AND one of the highest CASM's in the industry.

I must be stupid (watch phlFA88 jump on that comment LOL) because I don't see why any other airline would want to take on this airborne abortion anytime soon. NW, as has been noted elsewhere has its own fish to fry labor wise. Perhaps it's yet another deal that looks good on paper but will end up a disaster for the customers and employees.
Could change? You mean Mike Conway right? I know, hopeful thinking. I still vote him back soon! 🙂

Wow, you dont know the airline business very well do you?

Rakesh Gangwal.

Word out of PHL tonight is that a merger with Northwest willl be announced the first week of January.
I heared the same thing from my dry cleaner, except he said it would be the 3rd week in January

Just what US needs more labor problems with scab mechanics at NW.
Those scab mechanics will fit right in with a scab union like the IAM!! Here is a quote right from one of the head scab's mouth! With "friends" like these.........................

"Meanwhile, members of the machinists' union, which usually handles tasks like baggage handling and customer service, took on the task of cleaning Northwest's cabins between flights at its hubs here and in Minneapolis, a job that was previously done by the mechanics' union.

Steve Gordon, president of the machinists' union local here, said he did not enjoy crossing another union's picket line. But Mr. Gordon, whose union used to represent mechanics until AMFA won an organizing drive in 1999, said he preferred to see his workers taking on the mechanics' old tasks, instead of having Northwest hire outside contractors.

"I'm going to make sure my members have a chance to get that work," Mr. Gordon said".
Hard to defend that one aint it!

Bring back Rakesh!
I think he would be a good choice. I never saw the airline run better than when he was CEO. Also, he tried to spare the employees as much grief as he could until he was booted. I also liked the cheese!

🙄 Oh yea...this would be a great merger....NOT! Northwest contracts out....what? 3/4 of their ground staff? YUP, that would go over well.

You hit the nail on the head brother! If the IAM had ANY bone of solidarity the NW strike would have succeeded. Instead the IAM had its member perform STRUCK WORK!
No doubt that NW management outmaneuvered the AMFA. The fact remains that when the IAM walked at Ozark the AMFA did NOT cross their picket line. The IAM has the interest of the IAM front and center, everything else is secondary.

I, for one, am sooooo tired of this merger-rumor-go-round game. In the past week, this board has seen rumors of mergers with United, Northwest, JetBlue, and Spirit -- and I am sure I could be missing some.

Give it a rest already. To those of you out there hell bent on the merger rumor, might I suggest you be a little more creative in your future posts????
