Merger with NW ?

The buzz on wall street is that LCC is in merger talks with Greyhound.

AFAIK, it didn't really have a choice, the contract was voided during the company's BK.
Who? The ramp at NW is AFAIK?????
DID NOT HAVE A CHOICE. Now that is a good stance.
You negotiate and use every thing ,person and agency possible

I must be stupid (watch phlFA88 jump on that comment LOL) because I don't see why any other airline would want to take on this airborne abortion anytime soon.

I'm Not Falling into That Pit Of Snakes!

There are still labor problems from the NW/Republic Merger.
Perfect fit then. Goes together nicely with the labor problems from the AWA/US merger, as well as the labor problems with all of USAirways previous mergers.

Might as well consolidate all the past merger problems under one roof.

I think he would be a good choice. I never saw the airline run better than when he was CEO. Also, he tried to spare the employees as much grief as he could until he was booted. I also liked the cheese!

Yes, Rakesh ran a good operation - one in which employees could take pride (unlike today). And, yes the cheese was very, very good.
But I have to disagree with your assertion that he "tried to spare employees as much grief as he could." That man made many people's lives a living hell, including mine. Tyrannical management style. Ebenezer Scrooge-like requests for hours worth of work made at 4pm on Christmas Eve with the demand that it be completed before employees could go home to be with families.

There's a reason US was a well-run airline, the darling of Wall Street, and had such a good product: managers who didn't cut the mustard were shown the door, and with great regularity.

Unlike Tempe, which has such a laissez-faire attitude and seems to promote the incompetents versus the talented. They remind me of Miss Prissy in Gone With The Wind singing "Tote the Weary Load" -- lazily taking her time returning from her mission to fetch Dr. Meade as Atlanta burned and Miss Mellie was havin' her baby.

There are some RJ's sitting over at the hangar with belly tanks....rumor must be true.

Wow, you dont know the airline business very well do you?

Rakesh Gangwal.

Are you on crack? He and Wolff were responsible for our pre- and post- 9/11 problems. They spent the better part of two years on an ill-fated merger attempt, without a PLAN B, when the Dept. of Justice told them in the very beginning that the merger wasn't going to get approved. Don't y'all remember what it was really like, the blocked-off executive suite; the dynamic duo rarely would fly on-line, opting for private jets instead. The ran the airline into the ground, and then immediately before Ch. 11, verse 1, took their millions and bailed, leaving the mess to Siegel. I will agree that we had a great product under them, but we also had an untenebale debt load and a powder keg of troubles waiting to explode, which they did on September 11, 2001.

And do you not remember all the bitching and griping on the line when Wolff and Gangwal were at the helm? It's easy to look back break out into a chorus of "Those Were the Days" and yes, they were better than now, but all was far from rosey.

if a US/NW merger happens this gives an out on the China route that in my opinion caught
US Airways by surprise. The whole PHL gate issue is just a ruse.

I hope it happens for no other reason than to have the much discussed PIT-AMS flight get canceled. I can hear the cries and complaints from those vocal PIT supporters already.

Brought to you by the village idiot 767jetz.

KEEP USAIRWAYS - MY USAIRWAYS
You got to be kidding, after PARKER and A-WEST turned this place into the laughing stock of the industry I would love to see the name go, that's even after 28 yrs here.

KEEP USAIRWAYS - MY USAIRWAYS

I really don't think you have much to worry about.

There are a number of reasons why this is just rumor.

NW has the CAL ace to play. (whom would be on NW radar, along with Delta, parts of United [should they M/A with DAL])
NW is looking to grow internationally...ONLY. (68 787 Drealiners is a lot of anticipated growth) while the DC9 fleet is rapidly shrinking..presently 97 from 150.
NW is well positioned to succeed as a standalone better than any legacy (balance sheet raped from employees pockets)
NW has a balance sheet that would allow it to go after almost any legacy that would bring with it a missing continent in it's coverage.
NW knows all to well that ANY M/A must involve employees...otherwise, the company disintegrates.
US has not (by a long shot) completed it's present merger, with many unhappy employees (couple that with the lingering anger, and bitterness from our bankruptcy spells a recipe for a nuclear warhead).

Primary driving force for any NWA M/A would be the BS term.."shareholder value=the best pay out for management" and global position for competitiveness, Asia, Europe, S.America, and in future Africa.

All indicators point to a NW/Delta merger...that is my prediction. (if they can get the employees from both companies to agree (and they will with the right sweeteners..i.e. MONEY/ GROWTH)
