Title III Fleet Service & Title IV Ground Services Negotiation Committee Update August 12, 2008

The Fleet Service and Ground Service Negotiation Committee met with the company today in Dallas, Texas. The company reported that it could not accept the union’s proposal given on July 1, 2008. They stated that by doing so would diminish the value the company would achieve had it been accepted in all seven work groups. There was no further proposal offered to this committee from the company. The Fleet Service and Ground Service Negotiation Committee are currently re-evaluating its options and will consult with other Joint Negotiation teams and the TWU-ATD. We will inform you of any further developments as they occur.

I don't see anything happening anytime soon. Especially since all seven work groups have to be on the same page.
Just my uneducated opinion.

And why do we need to be on the same page. M&R should not give into this way of thinking.

Jimmy, I don't know. Why don't you go ask the company, they are the ones who are saying all seven or none.
I'm sure fleet service feels the same way you do JimmyJimmy!

Take it how you want Get Real. M&R owes nothing to the other work groups. And that would be JimJimmyJim

This is why that first offer - though I never saw the full details so I can't say for sure - may have been a decent play. Two years, so you wouldn't have been locked in long-term, and some payouts to ease to pain.

Might look even better after Iran closes the straight of Hormuz in the wake of an Israeli attack and oil rockets past $200.

Might look even worse after 99942 Apophis hits.

If oil shoots past $200 you are gonna need a lot more than one payments of 3% and 5%. fREQUENT fLYERCA leaves out the fact that concessions wer tied to the offer.

Please correct me if I'm wrong (somehow I don't think that will be an issue) but weren't the "concessions" you refer to increases in productivity? I suppose you could consider those to be concessions, but many posters tried to paint the offer as stepping backwards, which with the payouts and short-term contract length, I don't think it would have been.

"Productvity improvements" is simply a polite way of saying "concessions". They werent even offering a raise, just a one time payment in exchange for permanent concessions. In 2010 we would be at the same rate of pay we are at now, less inflation, but with additional concessions, the effect would be a 5% paycut after the two years are up plus inflationary losses which would likely push the real cut to double digits, so yea, thats moving backwards.

Productivity improvements inevitably mean less money in our pockets. The less productive we are the more OT we can get. Its not unusual to up your gross by 10% by working OT. That beats the 3 and 5% they were offering and we dont have to grant them any more concessions.

Not mentioned is they also wanted to raise the limit on how much eagle could fly. In other words, at DFW you would have seen more eagle jets replacing mainline flying and therefore more layoffs. The company also wanted a panel to choose crew chiefs instead of bid on them by seniority. The panel would consist of 3 members (2) management (1) Union Rep. Who would become crew chief?
