No water for employees in CLT

In order to keep the other thread on topic I'm going to post this here with hopes that Clt management will wake up before it's to late.

The heat index's here are some where between 100-105 & no doubt where we work maybe more. The company is no longer supplying us water. Now there are fountains where people can go to if they make it there or we can bring our own water & refill at said fountains. FYI TSA is not taking employee water here that I've heard of as long as you don't use the checkpoint.

I plead with management to spend "a few bucks" on your employees & bring us water before something bad happens which in turn will cost the company.

That is the issue to me. Sure there are drink machines in the breakrooms, one can bring an empty bottle from home and fill it at work, etc, but it should be the company's responsibility to provide free hydration for those who work in the heat/humidity.

I can see the line of employees now at the water fountain......and the planes baggage still awaiting -- now there's a productive moment ?!?

Management needs to supply them bottled water .....this is beyond silly - someone needs to step up and do the right thing here.

Cases of water were purchased,.but..but..but...it's under lock and key-so only the supervisors have the key.
I have to be fair, when we want it they give it us.

Personally, I can get by with the water purifiers in each breakroom or tap water if I'm really in a pinch. You should press to have those purifiers installed. The Gatorade from the juice cart is nice, though much like bottled water it's more of a luxury in the whole grand scheme of things.

Does PHX still have a drink cart? In any case, let's look at the big picture and innovation. Does the Company recognize the dangers of working in the heat? Yes, and as mentioned they've done an iLearning program for it. Does OSHA have a regulation? I don't know, but I'll bet they do. Could the Company provide drinking water in each work area, say for every 10 gates, the bagroom, etc? Why not? Could employees buy their own containers to drink the water? Sure, but should they? Whether it's required or not, I don't see it being an issue to making drinking water very readily available in the warmer stations. Places like BOS probably don't need it outside and all over, one or two places should be sufficient (I know it can get nasty there, I'm just trying to be realistic) so long as it IS available. Would heat related issues be reduced by doing this? While I have no stats I believe it would. I also believe that any expense in this might be a tax rightoff AND show a reduction in Workmans Comp insurance. Just opinions.

Enough ITCHING by the Hubs. You made how much more an hour than I did for how many years? Spend 5 bucks and by your own case. The Company DOES supply water even though its from a fountain, that is ALL the contract requires.

At the risk of magically becoming a company stooge I going to chime in here.

In my other life I run a crew of 105 Volunteers for a music festival that is 5 days in length. We ALWAYS have provided bottled water to the volunteers. This year we've cut it back a great deal and we have provided water bottles and as before we have someone who delivers water in regular intervals. This year it will be from the well on site delivered in the large circular coolers with ice.

If you saw the the bottled water bill for a 5 day event you'd be saying "Let'em drink tap water". Trust me.

As summer heats up, CWA is asking outside technicians to take an online survey to help assess how many members have suffered heat stress symptoms and what employers are doing to limit exposure and provide training.
The five-question survey is at http://www.cwa-union.org/pages/cwa_heat_stress_survey. Local presidents and staff will be receiving an e-mail about the survey and are asked to make sure that all outside technicians are notified.
Potentially deadly, heat stress is a growing concern for CWA's Safety and Health Department, which just published a new heat stress brochure. Copies can be downloaded here. It can be found on the Safety and Health webpage at www.cwa-union.org.
