I understand what you are saying, however they have to choose a party to get elected.
Which party did the so-called tea party candidates run in? Which party do they now reside in the Congress?
Well they had to pick a party where they had a shot of getting out of the Primary. Hell Ron Paul had to pick a party. The party that's out of power is the mostly likely place to start. If the Republicans held the White House, Senate & House by significant margins then the Tea Party may well have risen through the Democrats. I think there was and is a large measure of expediency with the group.
OWS would seem to naturally align with Democrats, however Dr Paul is making inroads there as his message of sound money begins to resonate there.
The Liberty Movement, Occupy Wall Street & the Tea Party all seem to want to avoid a third Party. They align where they have the best chance to win.
IMO if whomever is the current darling of the Tea Party Movement(Gingrich, Santorum?) were to suddenly announce that he's switching registration and is now a Democrat most of the Tea Party would follow right along behind him.
The three groups I mentioned are issue not party driven.
