Yep tuesday proved america doesn't know right from wrong or good from bad anymore, very sad indeed. I can't wait for it to come back and bite them hard. The worthless and liberals need to go through a hard lesson in life.

Yes there is alot of funny things on forums isnt there? The most funny of all is that there is alot of blow hards spending a nauseating amount of time on chat forums as they have nothing more productive to do with their life. Hence your hearing it from me now in Nov. when something can be done about it.

The info you're looking for is published in the IAM newsletter annually. You're not one of those guys that just tosses it into the recycle bin w/o even looking, are you?

BTW, did the IAM endorse both a Rep. & Dem. candidate early on this time around?

I haven't seen the info on that subject maybe it was in the fine print or something, I still have a few newsletters though to look again to find it.

Co-worker told me today to stop by the local lodge and there is a form they give you to send in. I'm going to give that a try.

Yes I'm fully aware of all that. The IAM is going to do what they do plain and simple, it's a business and looks out for itself 1st, the majority of the members 2nd, and the minority 3rd. I'll go ahead and let the majority vote/decide topics for me because that is what happens regardless. The amount you get back currently is around $18, not alot but its something. But my main focus is I don't want my dues going to "political material" about candidates in which I don't believe in.
If your "main focus" is you object to your union dues going to "political material" about candidates there is something you should consider. Union dues money cannot and is not spent on political material. Political material, distributed by the union during a period leading up to an election, is funded by the MNPL (Machinists Non-partisan Political League). This organization is funded by voluntary contributions (no dues monies) from members of the IAM. The MNPL is the organization that lobbies in Washington for the betterment of their members. Lobbyists are abundant on the hill... representing the interests of big business such as airlines, insurance, oil, pharmactical, banking and countless other industries and special interests groups. As a union member I'm thankful the MNPL is there to represent my interests as a Fleet Service agent in the airline industry. if you think you're qualified to gain employment in any of the fore mentioned fields please apply. In the meantime, realize your limitations and quit bashing an organization that is trying to promote the best possible living and working conditions for the rest of us.

Magic is someone that we all know wants to stir the pot and defame the IAM... Everyone should know who he is... he has been here before with same agenda... ( hint hint)

Wrong again, I am not a anti IAM union worker I am however not allowing my dues to support political anything by the IAM since they were backers of the Obama campaign. As a Beck objector you still pay your dues for representative purposes only, the lobbying, campaigns, and poilitical portion of you dues will be refunded back to you, it's $17.35 currently. The IAM by law will still have to represent your grievance case(s) as an objector. Your local leadership will say "well we won't work as hard on your case, it will be put at the bottom of the stack, ect" as a scare tactic. That's bogus, the NLRB pays special extreme attention to cases where a dues objector is involved and there is no shortage of pro bono lawyers that will back you up if you feel you case is being improperly handled.

Now opinions aside and back to the original simple question at hand. I found the address to send my letter to:

General Secretary-Treasure of the IAM

9000 Machinists Place

Upper Marlboro, MD 20772-2687

The letter has to be postmarked from Nov. 1 thru Nov. 30 aswell. For other people out there that feel the same way and (I know there is quite a few in my station) you can go to Unionrefund.org for more info. and to get your letter generated.

For the peanut gallery that will be along shortly to slam all this. Don't bother replying to this message[background=rgb(250, 250, 250)], I'm not coming back in here to see what meaningless arguments you've thought up.[/background]

Ok, then you must already know the NLRB doesn't rule over RLA represented employees.

Technically, that is true... by law the union must continue to represent dues objectors, but it is little like leading a horse to water versus having it drink. I have personally seen people who paid their dues, but weren't one of the favorites of the union stewards for various reasons and they were given half-hearted attempts to defend those employee... some of whom lost their jobs as a result too. I have seen a union insider physically attack a co-worker in a potentially deadly and vicious assault on someone who wasn't well liked by the union regarding a non-union related matter while on duty! The victim filed a complaint to Management. Any guesses as to whom the union backed, and kept his job? Now imagine if a person refuses to pay their entire dues, and you think the union will move Heaven and Earth to defend that "ingrate"?

As I have said before in this forum... in this industry, better have someone on your side... either the union or Management, because otherwise you are just that close to being an at-will employee with the right circumstances.

In this country you are free to choose to support or not support any cause, organization, religion, union or political affiliation. In the case of union membership the law affords equal grievance representation for those who choose to not support unionism in their workplace, when they file for "dues objector" status.
Anyone who believes there are not consequences with their choices is being a bit naive. Like anything else in life there are consequences to the choices you make. Dues objectors forfeit their rights to hold any office within the union, to vote in elections for officers of the union and contract ratification votes. Likewise, by your actions, you are labeled and held in lesser esteem as a union member. That is the reality of it. Your choice... free will... but you must be willing to live with, and accept, the consequences of your decisions.

The NLRB has nothing to do with unions and the airlines, that would the NMB

Cargo,

Maybe should explain the meaning of the acronym DFR to them... they probably think it's a city code!

Proving D.F.R. ( Denied Fair Representaion ) is like proving Mickey actually slept with Minnie

Gladly. Under the Railway Labor Act labor organizations have a fiduciary, legal obligation and Duty to Fairly Represent all members within their organization regardless of their dues status. Dues Objectors are entitled to the provisions afforded under the acronym of DFR. The practice of the IAM MNPL distributing political educational material to it's members does not constitute a failure in the union's Duty to Fairly Represent. Again, the MNPL is supported by "voluntary" contributions by the membership and not membership dues monies. It seems to me Black Magic is crying foul after losing a second election.

Not sure who Black Magic is... he wouldn't be the same person who recently ran for President of District 141 and is now advocating filing for "Dues Objector" status would he?
