PHL getting fixed?

What does this article have to do with the fact that PHL is by far the largest revenue generating hub in our system? Do you think we would have such a large operation at such a poorly operating airport if it did not make money? What are you not getting? Keep hoping that PHL fails, and you can REALLY forget your upgraded F service you are so worked up over!

Listen to Crew News on the hub and listen to DP talk about how much revenue PHL generates. He only talks about it every 3 minutes. I am not one to believe mgmt and everything they spew, but WHY WHY WHY would he be making this cr@p up? 🙄
Keep drinking the KOOL-AID while the company slowly but surely disinigrates right before your very eyes.....

This PHL mess of an operation will be the death of this company......

But you just keep on thinking and believing what you like....

Geez, aredeeyou22, I asked a simple question...not your unwarranted rage!! And WHERE...please quote it...have I said I wanted PHL to fail?

I've got new for you. We offered F/C well before we had a hub in PHL and will with or with out it.
I think your anger management class starts in 5 minutes. 😛
What? Not angry at all (hence the smiley face...)

Still don't understand what FC has to do with making PHL work....

Oh this kool aid is delish! 🙄

Sorry, bud, the $$$ are in PHL, not PIT. Face it. Won't ever be in PIT. We have to make PHL work. PHL failing will also be the death of this company. Oh, btw, can't you come up with something besides Kool Aid drinking? I'm bored with that.... 😉

Back for more huh? 😛

Revenue and bottom line profit are two different animals. I was once told the all in cost of delvering a bag was around $100.00. So how many of those $89 fares that you like complain about does it take to make up that $100.00. Here is a clue, it is not two. I'm not going to take the time to look up the profit margin percentage of US, but let's be generous and say it is 1%. It would then take 111 more tickets to make up the loss on the on bag. That's a total of $9.879 in revenue (or what you would like to charge for a F ticket PHL/ CLT B) ) to to cancel out the cost of one bag. At one point last year the small out stations were spending $25,000 a month on lost bags from PHL. This did not include what PHL was spending to delvier them. How much is PHL spending a day? There is no way PHL is making money for US.

Sorry for you maybe....PIT has nothing to do with it....

Wake up and read the article, and the ones before and the ones that will continue to come after it....

And the holidays are just around the corner....

Can you hear the drumbeat getting louder....

Uhh, PHL is making $$$ for US. I agree 100%, it's a mess. No argument here. But it makes $$$. Do you think we fly to PHL so much because we like a challenge? No, prob because it makes $$$. Once they fix it, it will make even more $$$! But thanks for taking the time to do all the math!

Once again, never said PHL was not a huge mess. I agree. It's out of control. Does not change the fact that it generates more revenue for the company than any other hub. So, it needs to be fixed, period. Who will do it? Will anyone ever? No idea, but US needs it, so....

It is providing revenue. It is not providing profit. It is a shell game much like Enron. With out the revenue, the investors start looking REAL hard at the numbers. That is the real reason PHL can not fail. Mr. Parker understands that, and that is the reason why it comes out of his mouth every three minutes. Just like Mr. Lay.....

So pull down PHL, dismantle the transatlantic hub, sell off the widebodies and go back to being a glorified regional?

Yeah, that's a recipe for success.

If US is going to be in business in two years, they better fix it or move it, or there will not even be a glorified regional airline left. For better or worse Tempe's future now depends upon PHL.

Agreed. US can't "move it" (that's been discussed to death, PIT doesn't have the O&D to support a single FRA flight, let alone a full-blown transatlantic hub) and if they can't fix it, they'll probably go under. I think Doug Parker understands that too - given his repeated Crew News statements that for better or worse, PHL is the linchpin of the airline.

What I have heard...Not by mgmt...but just around is that the way SW fixed the problem with getting good people in PHL is not to pull from the employee market in PHL but to put people in "distance deployment" (I think that is what it was called) Where they just rotate people in from other outstations, and put them up in a long stay hotel/ apt? They are deployed for like 1-3 weeks at a time.
If they can't get good people in PHL, just ship them in.
Sounds like a good idea to me....Flame on! 😱

I remember hearing a number a while bacak that PHL was responsible for roughly 25% of the revenue that US-East generated. (Sorry, I can not find where I got this; maybe someone else can back this up.) So in order for PHL to lose money, it would have to be responsilbe for 25% of our total expenses. That sounds a bit high to me. I'm sure that its revenue to expense ratio is not ideal, but that doesn't mean its losing money.

Does PHL need to be fixed? Of course it does, but I don't think that there is evidence to show that its losing money in its current state.

That is the most absurd, factless analysis that I've ever read. Where did you dig up those ridiculous figures? Your credibility just deteriorated to < 0. If you want to prove a point at least come up with something which even approaches belief!

WN does this in alot of NE locations...ISP, MHT, etc. I ran into a WN ramper on the hotel shuttle and he told me this goes on in many places where they can't get people to work for what they want to pay. He was there(ISP) for two weeks and then back to his station(BNA) when they shipped in a replacement for him. There were 2 others there from other stations also. Don't know if they(WN)do this in PHL, but I suppose it is possible/probable.
