From an outsider who knows many hopefuls, there were talks recently of total recalls followed by hiring of 300+ pilots. Are any updates available?

By all appearances it is coming, sooner rather than later. For all interested I would say fire up your resumes and have them ready to go. Don't pay too much attention to the seniority fight here, it will pass as all things do.

I thought it was 300 pilot recalls and that was it? Surely they are not recalling all pilots and hiring 300 more

I hear US Airways pulled out of the job fair in Vegas this weekend at the last minute. Seems odd for a company about to hire by the hundred.

The big unanswered question is how the new duty/flight time limits will affect staffing, which as of the September crew news sessions hadn't been answered. There's the actual final rules to be announced, then plugging them into the crew optimization program to see the effect on staffing.

Other than that, Parker said that they'll have ~100 East furloughed pilots in class by the end of this year and hope to have all the post-merger hires on the East side back to work by roughly next summer. If I understood him correctly, beyond that the furloughed West pilots would have the option of accepting recall to the East, then hiring off the street.
