Not true. PIT Catering is up and running. The old catering building was turned back over to Allegheny County last year and the catering operation was moved over to the Hanger. They actually share a portion of the hanger with the parts department. They have 12 full time and 3 part time catering agents.I was told that the catering dept. in pit was to shut down this year or at the end of last year, any info on this matter?

What does the contract language say about outsourcing catering?I heard the same thing! No reason to keep Pit open anymore. If it doesnt make money Im sure the company has it on its radar.
IT WAS ONLY IN THE CONTRACT THE LAST FOUR YEARS WHICH ENDED DEC. 31 2011. iT WOULD BE HARD TO BELIEVE THAT EVERY AGENT IN THE SYSTEM WOULD VOTE TO GIVE UP SOMETHING IN THE NEW CONTRACT TO KEEP TWELVE CATERING JOBS IN PIT. JUST SAYINGWhat does the contract language say about outsourcing catering?

You said it yourself, key word (AMENDABLE)which will depend on a system wide VOTE!CBAs under the RLA do not end, they become amendable until a new agreement is reached and status quo provisions apply.
If you been around as long as you said you were, then you should know this.

The cost to contract out might have been greater at one time but withthe FEW flights that you cater now I doubt it. LGS caters just about every other airline out there, it's just a matter of time.According to management at PIT the catering department is a zero cost operation other than the employess pay and benefits. There is zero cost for facilities because the space they moved catering to they were storing boxes in. PIT is a orginating point for aircraft for Express also and believe it or not the cost to contract out is greater than the cost to insource the cateriing of these aircraft. Not saying that catering in PIT will not be axed but don't think it is a negotiating tool because Fleet Service Catering is cheaper than LSG, that is in favor of Fleet Service. As a matter of fact it has been rumoered that PIT catering might get the commuter catering jobs. They are starting to find out that it isn't always cheaper to contract out.
Well that says it, if PIT management says it's a zero cost operation. You are absolutely correct. Last January 2011 when it was announced that USAirways was going to contract out the Express operation to Jetstream the VP of Ground Operations (Jerry ?) was asked at the meeting if catering was going to be outsourced and he said "With Catering being moved to the hangar the operation has become so cost effective that all the vendors that put bids in this time were way above our costs and that Catering was not being outsourced."According to management at PIT the catering department is a zero cost operation other than the employess pay and benefits. Wooooooooo Jerry said so, I'am sure jerry gives a damn what happens to catering in pit. Piece by piece Jetstream will be doing all the jobs. Lets see $9.00 and some change per. hour or $20.00 an hour thats a hard one to figure out.You are absolutely correct.
