What's new

QIK /SHARES migration

Just found this site and it is an eye opener. I'm with IT and can understand your frustration.
Thanks for the info and welcome to usaviation!

To everyone on here, let's be nice to phx_it and not scare him/her off like we seem to have done to "nx_class", the last new poster with the courage to admit he worked in IT.

To phx_it, I'm sure a lot of people will be throwing questions/comments your way, so let me start off with this one off the top of my head. Why is taking to long to get the ability to check bags for more than three segments? This is something that CO SHARES can do (I know, our SHARES is not the same version) and one of the most frequently requested improvements.

To be sure, this function was not needed when getting people from TUS to ELP, but it is now something that is needed a bit more often.

I should be able to ask this question on Monday. I've seen this question asked before so it must be one of the bigger pains in the ass.

Thank you for attempting to understand why many of us feel we are stepping over dollars to pick up pennies.

I suspect Parker has no idea what is going on. What abilities do you have to ensure Parker gets the true poop and not the normal self-aggrandizing oatmeal fed by department heads? I've seen way too many department heads with broken arms trying to pat themselves on their backs in front of Parker. Can you help?

We have just seen Bular/Hogg caught lying in front of Parker, so, it will be interesting to see how "zero-tolerance" is practiced.

Unfortunatly I'm just a cog and can only talk with a middle person that goes between the people who use the system and the developers.
She takes complaints and works it out with the staff to improve things.

I've asked other agents about the problem. They didn't do much for your cause. They said 4 segments are unusual and when it happens they just write out the bag tags manually. I'll still put it past the complaint person and see what she says.

Yea, charge for non-revs who gave billions in concessions to keep this company in business,

Why dont you make them start paying to work here too?

You all are crazy.

I agree with someone who said charge for non-revs. Too many of our employees jump a flight to have dinner in SFO.
Sure it's a great benifit, but people abuse it. Why add weight to the airplane just to eat and add weight to yourself.

Charge a nominal $30 charge. It won't hurt the employees, it'll help the bottom line and it'll keep people from just hopping around for no reason.

Or start them off at SA7P and for $20 dollars move up to an SA3P and for $20 more an SA2P.
Are you for real? Free flying is one of the only good perks around here. And yes, a $30 charge will hurt the employees since we barely make above minimum wages.

Instead due to the high cost of cheap what we have is an "S" fare at a different and inconvenient times at lower fares then the "Y" fare which was available but in the wrong fare bucket. Ticket would have priced at nearly $900.00 but US got $501.00 because of their bucket of bolts IT system.

If the company would stop nickle and diming FF'ers and charging for so called premium seating and focused on developing a functioning IT infrastructure the company would actually save money and make customers happy all at the same time. What a concept!!!!! Operational Effiency AND Customer satisfaction.

I would love investment in IT because I'm in it.

I just don't know what Parker has planned. We don't know if the plan is to merge with UA and scrap QIK altogeter and go with UA's Amedeus and whatever system they have. What would be the point in investing in something that's about to die and it will die sooner or later. All programs have there life cycle.

This will get flamed but I just think Parker has done OK. US Airways is designed to be a low cost airline. People do know we don't have the best service but they'll keep coming back because people just focus on the lowest fare. They don't even consider that they could pay another $100 and get better service and food. Ever since deregulation the airline industry has been truned on it's head. Those days of regulation and gaureteed profits are gone. It was an artificial world that some are trying to hang on to.

Well, I for one, would love US to go with Amadeus. IT would be a step in the right direction. Qik/Shares would crash and burn with all of United's destinations. 😱

After all, we are using Amadeus internationally.

BB may correct me but I believe it is due to the short legs on the east.
That's a small part of it - if you stage length adjust CASM US goes from being the highest cost to only one of the highest cost.

System CASM comparison

Stage length adjusted system CASM

A lot of it has to do with the amount of express flying - US has a higher percentage of ASM's flown by express than any other carrier. All those high CASM RJ's push the system CASM up.

They didn't do much for your cause. They said 4 segments are unusual and when it happens they just write out the bag tags manually. I'll still put it past the complaint person and see what she says.

Four segment bag tags arent that unusual, Problems with using manual bags include:
They are harder to read than generated bags - even when legible writing is used.
They are very flimsy and likely to tear.
They also only have room for three flights. So they have to be conjuncted, making them even flimsier.
They look tacky.

CO SHARES can do this; why can't ours? (I know, it's not the same version.) According to the QIK FIX DRS oage, 4 segment bag tags are coming "some time this year". This should have been taken care of last year. As stated, we now how customers who make journeys more complex than TUS to RNO. While not every customer flies ALB-PHL-LAX-SYD-CNS, we do have many who make such journeys.

Without going into more complex issues (such as how the standby list works) I could go on with items that should seem fairly simple to fix: States codes on boarding passes for places like Charleston (WV/SC) Greenvillle (NC/SC) Fayetteville (AR/NC) Columbus (GA/OH). Other carriers print that out. So did we in Sabre. Airport codes/names for cities with more than one airport. Again something that is industry standard practice.

What many users would like to know is why is taking long to fix these things. Is it cost? If so, why were people told that a main reason in switching from Sabre to QIK/SHARES is that while Sabre charged a lot for enhancements/changes, our own IT people could make changes to QIK for much lower cost.

Former America West don't understand that our flight structures are more complex and demanding especially on a bad weather day. This POC system just doesn't work for us. The standby lists are impossible to work with and get a flight out on time so it ends up that standby passengers don't get on even if there are seats because it is too complicated to clear hk's /non-revs. In Philly for example on a bad day you can have 3-4 flights blinking on your gate but you can only work on one. The system is too antiquated for the routes and continuous flights we have daily. It would be good for a Spirit or Air Tran but for our structure the decision to go for shares v. sabres was indeed a bad choice.

It is true the agents I asked about the 4 segments were all west of the Mississippi.

Why does the standby list skip people? Let's say I unseat SA3P Smith because I need to get past him to get to the next person in like - - he hasnt responded to the page - - but then he shows up and I have plenty of seats so I re clear him -- his name is still on the list and it still won't give him a seat. I have to RECHECK him in like, twice, to get a freakin seat to come out. And WHY WHY WHY does it seat assign blocked seats to nonrevs no matter what? My brain hurts. I really miss GA5/14C or G{X}5/F...GRR!!
