Recalls beginning

I don't think we will see any invol flight attendants called back to the east side in the next few months. As the 190 comes on line possibly. We just sit and sit as far as PHL anyway.

Article from Charlotte Observer:

US Airways to recall 55 pilots Returning crew will help fly 3 new 757s
STAN CHOEschoe@charlotteobserver.com

US Airways said Friday it will recall furloughed pilots for the first time since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks devastated the airline industry.
US Airways, Charlotte's dominant carrier and a major local employer, will recall about 55 pilots, trimming from the current list of about 1,570.
The pilots will help fly three newly acquired Boeing 757 jets. The airline has also been recalling furloughed flight attendants: About 40 percent of 180 flight attendants scheduled for training this spring are ex-US Airways workers.
"These employees have demonstrated incredible patience and dedication during their time away from us, and we're thrilled to welcome them back to the new US Airways," said US Airways Chief Executive Doug Parker.
The announcement caps a busy week for US Airways.
It said Thursday that it will buy bigger regional jets than originally negotiated from Embraer. The airline said it will receive Embraer 190 jets instead of the smaller 170s. The new jets will be fitted with 11 first-class seats and 88 coach.
Earlier Thursday, the airline said it was adding several European destinations from its Philadelphia hub in May and June: Lisbon, Portugal

I actually don't see recalls for atleast the next two years on the east side. Most aren't jumping ship like once was happening.

Didn't someone say that the 190s would slowly take the place of the 737s? Well if they sit 11/88 then the company can get away with only staffing with two flight attendants, even though we did fly the F100 with 3. That just doesn't sound to good should they phase out the 737s that use 3f/as and replaceing with 190s that could only use two.

never mind ... edited because I could not make it "sound" nice.

Hello, they are finished parking the 737. The ones that are leaving are pretty much gone.

11 First class seats, hmmm.

Smells like they want to go for the 2-3 hour segment with these aircraft. That config would serve half-con flights (half continental) fairly well.

IMO this is the plane that will fly into/out of the midwest to either coast, allowing a fair amount of route growth.

Another good use will be southbound international flights as well.

One final note, it is interesting that the options were for either the 190 or170's, which could lead to the future displacement of the Mesa/Republic RJ's out of PHX and elsewhere...

Anyways, good news, and a smart move IMO. Wy bother with a midwestern hub when you can just go direct to the coasts instead...?

I comepletely disagree with you on this one..they are recalling 55 pilots now and I think that they will recall some f/a's by Oct....just my thoughts. They will not be able to add 190's and not recall f/a's...I beleive there will be a f/a recall for east sometime this fall.

east is still overstaffed with f/a's. The soon to be displaced remaining PIT f/a's will need to go some where.
Unless they plan to make PIT a 190 base, with all PIT f/a's the only ones qualified to fly them. (stranger things have happened)

By how many is East overstaffed?

Now being based in PHL I can't speak for the other bases. Once the seasonal flying picks up in May and June we will be flying much more as reserves than we do now. We won't be overstaffed. By the time the seasonal flying winds down in October, only a month later the 190 will start to arrive. It seems they are increasing the utilization of the a/c as well. Someone will have to fly the flights such as the two new flights to LAS from RDU and MIA and the added flights from PHL plus all the seasonal flights added in PIT. The union even stated that there may be possible recalls to the east by year end when discussing invols taking positions at USwest. The sitting, IMO is almost over. I can't wait, I need the $$$

just out of curiosity, is there much overflying, i.e., stealing, going on? i remember this being an incredibly significant problem back in 2001-2003. In some cases, senior-mamas (and papas) flying eight trips per month (back when the divisions were separate) to absorb the seigel (sp?) invoked paycut losses.
A f/a mentioned and explained overflying to doug in one of the crew information sessions (forget the official name of these meetings; it is available on the hub) and doug seemed genuinely upset about it.
if overfly is an issue, i would recommend reminding tempe...

Overflying definately still exists but not to the extent as in the past. I don't know how some get away with it but they do. I need the money, I need the money is all you ever hear. Yeah, well I don't have a printing press in my basement. We all need the money. lol I don't know if f/a's are overflying this month though. I have been trying to p/u various trips through the month and get denied over and over saying the b/h we be below 40 or 50 hrs. Pull the damn thing off the tradeboard then. Hmmmm?

Has US run any mock bids to see who would bid the E190 and whether or not it would go exclusively to ex-MDA/recalls?

Lines are given in seniority order and the flight attendants at US Airways have been trained on the AC. Not sure if it was all bases or just certain ones; however, the training for FAs would be a one day new AC day if they needed it same as when the Airbus came online.

Pilots do their own thing of which I do not know, but I am sure those who need trained would receive training just the same as do with any new AC.

Any lines associated with these planes would be given out in seniority order as I cannot see any way around seniority.

Just my opinion.
