Heard today at work that we will be cutting and then possibly eliminating SBY's at the airports. Personally I like the idea. Easier and more cost efficient to find a few moves while you call out a reserve from home to play catch up. Never understood the idea of having someone sit at the airport for 6 hours doing nothing and running the hours up.

Callled standby. We go to the airport sign in and sit for 6 hours, waiting to be used for a flight. We get 1/2 pay for sitting there.

We had an airport stand by option but in 33 years, I never saw it used. There are usually people sitting around for many different reasons that can be "pulled" to cover last minute problems. With a 2 hour call out, the reserve can be used for a later flt. This seems like a much more effective use of personel.

So the Mechanics gave up 17.5% of working time pay, so that the SBY could sit and do nothing for half pay?

Wow, that sounds profitable.

The reserve standby is supposed to eliminate schedule holding FA's from being reassigned off of their trips. If they would like to do away with standby they will have to negotiate it with the union because it is contractual. I'm sure if they just approach the union they will get what they ask for. They always do.

The pay for standby is actually 5 hours pay for 6 hours sit and everytime I have done it I have been used for something.

You are such an idiot. Don't you get tired of making a fool out of your self. Do you even know what the purpose of a SBY is? Do us all a favor, next time you open your mouth, try a little research first so you don't look like a southern end of a north bound horse.

My understanding was it's a done deal and should start taking effect in Nov. I'm not aware that SBY are contractually required. We have reduced SBY's on OSO and holidays all the time with out notifying anyone. I know how SBY’s are plotted is governed by the contract but how many and if we have them is up to us as far as I am aware. I’ll check tomorrow when I go in.

I am assuming that it is like what we have here. We sit for five hours and have no idea if we will fly or not. We need to be ready to go for four days, go home that night, or anything in between.

Language regarding standby is in the contract, however there is no mandate that it be utilized.

Hmm,

I am an idiot,

I am a Fool,

I am a horses ass!

But I did give up 17.5% in pay, so you could sit on your ass at the airport and get half pay? I must be gullible too!

If it could possibly eliminated, then was it needed to begin with?
