What's new

Reserve F/As please advise

Boston or LGA, huh? Great cities to visit... but as a southern gal I have no interest in northern winters. Living in PA is enough for me. I am not really interested in going to another airline. I started out with a US Airways Express carrier then came to Mainline. I took a Vol furlough in Jan 03 only to be involed in May. After that I went to ATA for almost a year and quit because I met who is now my husband and couldn't hack commutting to Chicago, living in Alexandria, VA, and staying at his house in Maryland. Plus 99% of my flying was miltary trips overseas (fun, but 12 days overseas doesn't help when you are trying to develop a relationship... oh to have that now...) So I resigned, and it was good timing, too - my ATA class was laid off about 6 months after I quit and they are still out.

In the meantime I finished up my bachelor's in sociology, got married (what a challenge) and am working with Aflac. The flexibility with that is great - the money is great - but but but but but I miss my pie in the sky. (grass greener...) - Probably some of it, too, is that I would really appreciate a break from staying at home all the freaking time, though my husband has professed to not want to be married to a flight attendant. I live near York, PA - just outside the 2 hour area for reserve... I was wondering if I ever came back if I could hack it living slightly outside of base. Not that I would ever want to walk fine lines and cause trouble for myself but I can't f'ing imagine paying for some dumpy crashpad and sitting there weeks at a time. Any thoughts on that?

I guess I'm just a little sad and miss it. I just recently returned from BDA on US Airways and missed the crews. The planes were gross- I wanted to bring on a bottle of clorox cleanup and scrub the tray tables. Honestly, do you think they are turning things around? It seems to me, from the outside, that management cares (a little) -- at least enough to go out on the road and attempt to communicate with the work force. I know with labor and management nothing is ever peaches and cream but is there a shiny light at the end of that tunnel?

And what on earth is going on with the pilots? What's the deal with the Nicolau award? I tried to do some research and learned some arbitrator handed down some ruling (not sure exactly the details) that pissed off the east in a big way. Do you see something like that happening to the F/As?

My ideal position would be to come back, fly some, *at this point I do not want to put in 100 hour months anymore* and keep working where I am. (Several people I know will make bonuses over $100K this year. Now that's not me - I don't work that hard, but I'm happy working with the clients I have.) Being grounded is just starting to wear on me and I could use a break.

I appreciate all opinions - and thank you for your time and honesty.

Hi Va,

It sounds like you want to come back, and have never let go of US. I say go for it, but have some back-up plans. Don't cut ties or give up anything that you have going now. Once here, you can always leave again, or take an educational leave--they've never stopped offering that. You probably won't be able to do the 40 hour drop for a while...but change is in the air, and you never know what the next merger might bring. So, pm me when you're back on campus🙂

I have my interview with CO at the end of September, wish me luck and Ill see you in the LGW crew room someday in the future!!

Let me just say that as negative as I usually am on this board...I still love being a flight attendant--all the great people I work with and the places I've gotten to see---even those pesky passengers ! I had a GREAT group of them yesterday coming out of RSW. Presently however, I don't like the company that I work for.

However, that being said, the way this company is being run now is horrible but I still try to have some hope. I'd like to think it is growing pains from the merger and they'll get it together. I really do. However, two years later, here we are so it's difficult to stay positive.
Honestly, if you have something better going on, stay away until the dust settles. Just my opinion.
Your viewpoint pretty much sums up the GENERAL Attitude of the tenured employees. Most people that REMAIN do so for their own reasons or generally because of the flexibility of the position. The Airline is a very different Company today than it was when any VOL/INVOL employee worked here. The Management/Customer Committment of THIS rendition of USAIRWAYS is much to be desired and most people are pretty embarassed by what goes on. For me, I still like the job and enjoy the people I have met on an employee basis and certainly the customers. As far as The Mgmnt.........I PAY NO ATTENTION TO THEM, and as long as I get my check on the 15th and 30th, They can Talk To the Hand. (Expecting Me at a Town Hall Meeting to kibbutz with Dougie would be as likely as Me Being Named the Queen of England........it isn't going to happen! )
