What's new

So how are things so far?

If some of us that choose not to wear the tie are trying to be something we're not then what is it we're trying to be? A little bit more modernized maybe? When it's said that the aviator shirt was not designed to be worn without a tie, says who? If our a/c look like they were created by photoshop and our a/c are dirty and we are down the path to being a true ghetto airine why on earth should we look so "Polished"? I am so sick and tired of hearing that word. When I hear that word it reminds me of the Impressions Of Excellense class they made us do and the wacko chick who used the term "World Class Legendary Service". Wake up and smell the coffee. If my taking my tie off makes someone want to fly a competitor instead, well the problem lies with them and not me or the company I represent. Our own CEO doesn't wear a tie all the time and he is VERY visible. For those on the east side that are stuck on an airline that is "no more" I say get ready for a lot of changes your not going to like. If you are working a slightly and i do mean slightly higher end service such as Envoy or whatever the hell its called this week I can see a tie being worn and possibly ditching it there as well. I like to think I do a great job and a tie doesnt make me look any better doing it. For the chubs, mullet wearing guys out there that can't keep their shirts tucked it or run an iron over them I say attack them. THEY are the ones who need the style guide, not someone who dithes the tie and wants to buck the trend a bit. 🙄

Maybe instead of screaming for the tie to come back they should be screaming for the MD-80 window exit to come back. That'll curb some of the chub!!

Now that's funny. I'll tell ya, I would love to be a fly on the mockup wall to see some do their sizing through the overwing exit leg body leg. You know some bring the stick of butter. At 155 pounds I have to sometimes fight to keep one half of my rear on the jumpseat. Now that's bad. The MD-80 window....thats too funny

As a customer, I would much rather see a relaxed, friendly employee without a tie than a stuffy, rude employee with a tie.

For those that want to wear the tie . .that's great. But don't assume that people that choose not to wear the tie will look sloppy.

I'm just saying put some freakin starch in the collar so it stands out neatly. Jesus guys, it takes all of 5 minutes. Screw the company. Screw the customer. For Christ sake, do it for yourself.

Thank God, I don't have to wear that useless tie anymore. The only thing it was good for was adding more stress to an already stressful situation. Now that I can breathe, and no more neck aches while I perform my hectic duties at the gate, I feel 100 times better. Since I only see 1 out of 100 male passengers wearing ties these days, I agree with this decesion. Look at all the money Usairways will save, not having to pay for 3 ties per employee.

The question is..Are you taking a few minutes to starch the collar and entire shirt or will THAT become the new excuse for being stressed? Great, dress up and be crumpy. Look like you just slept on a redeye (which 90% do) and be happy. That's screwed up.

Can someone direct me to which employee groups that no longer have to wear ties? I can't find a memo anywhere on this.

I am NOT an advocate of ties WHEN and again WHEN we get a new uniform that is condusive to wearing no ties, but come on people...I hate to be stereotypical, but your average heterosexual man doesn't even know how to dress on a good day, but tell him to wear no tie? This is stupid!! These "men" look shabby, sloppy, and unprofessional. At least with a tie the unkept shirts were not as noticable, but with no tie?

No gay employees would EVER look so horrible. Come on Doug, go to a Spectrum meeting or gather the boys who will stir the uni in the right direction. I am too embarrassed and for those that have the f--- u attitude..which many have..and those poor straight men who know no better? Oh, God, thank God the f/a's haven't adapoted the policy..BUT, I promise you we would put some starch in the shirt and iron it..Geez!!! POOR!!!
I guess when I see a well groomed f/a I will asume hes gay as no straight guy can be well groomed. I also will make sure my spouse looks unkempt so no one mistakes him for being gay. Sorry I dont buy it but good good for you for being proud of your appearance,

I don't think he directed that to every straight guy, but alot of our str8 boy f/a's (especially PIT, sorry) look like they got out of bed and dug in the dirty clothes hamper. I'm sure not a fan of the tie and if you just take a little pride in what you have on and iron it and keep yourself up then it should not be a problem.

Maybe the well groomed employees can coach those who look so bad or maybe we can call Queer Eye for the Straight Guy!

If you wanted to call in Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, the fab 5 would need a whole season to clean up the mess we have here. I can only tell you that today some senior momma wore her raincoat to serve in f/c today on transcon. That along with her isotoner slippers. And some are worried about a tie? Absolutely insane. Was she THAT damn cold? I think the sweater vest without the tie looks very nice as someone had asked. The sweater vest and a tie makes you look like a geek. How about some of the sweaters some are wearing.....half the women are walking around in those damn Mr. Rogers sweaters that are all natted and look like hell. Again the tab/tie is a big deal huh?

Thanks..yeah, that's where I was going.
