The LOW CLASS in LCC Strikes Again

Speaking of that, I was at the mall this morning and I overheard a young girl (probably 20) talking about how little the "luggage people at USAir" make. She said, "I heard they make like $10 an hour. You can more at the mall. Maybe that is why they always lose your suitcase. You can't hire anyone good at that pay." And then her boss told her to sweep the floor.

be careful of what you wish for. people are leaving. fc had several empty seats on two flights this week. one of them had about 4 seats open. I see this more and more. perhaps this the reason for the push to get more preferred members. the more often u see empty seats in fc it means u r losing preferred members. how many us1's and us2's are u seeing. the numbers are thinning. I see more and more US5's and US4's in fc.

On a recent weekday JAX-DCA flight (first flight of the day), myself and my traveling companion were the only two passengers in First (plus the two air marshalls). Coach was nearly full. Gate agent couldn't get anybody to buy upgrades. Flight attendant, following the after take-off ding, planted himself in 1F and worked on his bids and read USA Today. Got one round of drinks approximately 30 minutes after the seat-belt sign went off. Then he sat back in 1F and worked on his bids some more, finally collecting trash as he rushed to sit down abeam the Kennedy Center on approach.

That work ethic I am observing by more and more of the flight attendants is chasing me away faster than the stuip changes by Tempe.

It is more the attitude than the lack of service.

I fly many carriers, and their F/As are aways busy, or appear to be busy. It is the perception they are trying to provide service, while at US the attitude of more and more is the heck with the customers, I'll just sit here and do what I want, and if their is an emergency I might get up.

It's a shame you guys NEVER say anything good about the f/a's that do a wonderful job. The last two post prove to me that you guys LOVE to BIITCH!! You can't tell me all your flights are as horrible as you project. AND might I add that the other airlines are FULL of f/a's that are lazy, rude, and inept. And guess what? Many are at SWA and JBlue. You people beat all.

You are, IMO, out of line. I know JAX has said plenty of nice things in the past. What he had here was a lazy ass FA who only did minimal service (while getting "A" pay), but then had the guts to sit in a passenger seat in Row 1.

Do you excuse any of this behavior?

I'm afraid you are mistaken. I've written fewer than a half dozen complaints to US Airways and over 50 compliments that name a specific employee. Most of those compliments went to flight attendants. After one week of several trips I sent in 3 or 4 of those comment cards about various employees and got a phone call back from a manager in consumer affairs thanking me for my feedback.

Because I post about the rare bad experience doesn't mean I do not acknowledge the good ones. Have I said all of my flights are horrible? Not by any means. Most are great. All I care about is having a flight that leaves relatively on-time (though as many of my trips are O&D PHL, I count anything within 30 minutes as being on-time and don't mind it) on an airplane that is safe and relatively clean (doesn't even need to be spotless). I like to be rewarded for my loyalty (when I travel, I pull up usairways.com and that's the only place I go unless US is completely inconvenient). I don't mind a few free drinks on board. I don't even care if there is not a meal on a 3 hour flight, as I think most inflight meals suck anyway and I'd rather grab real food in the terminal.

The folks at US East doing their best with what little they have to work with is what keeps me coming back. However, when there is a flight attendant who can't be bothered to do much of anything with just two passengers to serve.... that's inexcusable.

At my job, I've taken a pay cut, am under a pay freeze (as management), have dealt with coworkers being laid off, and have a turnover rate pretty much equivalent to that of US at PHL. Still doesn't give me a right to not do my job. I'm polite and caring to employees and to customers when I have those interactions. Nobody is forcing me to stay. I'm finishing my MBA and already am floating resumes out there. I don't like where I'm at or the situation, so I'm improving it and leaving it. There's always that option if you don't like your job.

I agree with hp F/A. Unfortunately their are quite a few individuals that do THE BARE MINIMUM and still fly the Lead Position, which at US is First Class. Much of the problem stems from the fact that there is NOT a LEAD Qualified Program (only the Best or highly recommended personnel) would qualify. This has been addressed in the past and the usual reply is the Union wouldn't allow it or seniority (heaven for bid seniority take a hit) would be compromised. If you Want Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y you (The Company) are going to need to make some changes. As for the F/A sitting in F/C.....absolutely no EXCUSE for it, and I see it way too often.

I just witnessed this the other day. I walked to the back for a few minutes while I was flying "A". I wanted to talk to the "B" for a few minutes on a fairly light flight. I had exacly 5 folks in f/c on an MCO-DCA flight. No US1's I might add. So I asked the "C" if she would mind going up front for a few minutes. We all had a pretty cool relationship with each other after a few days. In the middle of my conversation I noticed that she made herself a cup of tea, grabbed the paper and sat at 1F. I went right up there and gave her the "pssssst". I said I was finished and she said ok cool. I took my seat at the j/s. I'm sorry but while I don't care for a stuffy atmoshpere I think it's not appropriate for a f/a to sit in f/c with passengers. That is like your waiter (not that we are waiters) sitting at your table or the table next to you. You would give a look I'm sure. Sitting in the back of coach is one thing but to hang out and read your paper in a f/c seat. Not only is it tacky but it's not allowed.

Hope you didn't go overwing. 🙄 Oh, that's right, you asked someone to cover for you while you were in the back in case the cockpit was rushed.

Could you imagine if a pax plopped his big butt in your jumpseat?

not that we are waiters

Would you be a sweetheart and get me some more red wine sugar?

I might. I have sat at the "C" jumpseat on the east 757 at row 26 and had a man put his feet up on the seat as I was sitting on the damn thing. I swear, I was sitting sideways during flight when I was jumpseating out west. I turned and looked at him then his feet than him again. He just looked at me and went back to reading his paper. I said, "Excuse me, are you comfortable". "Your shoes are on my pants". He gave me the nastiest look as his wife sucked cheese off her fingers after her big A$$ killed a bag of cheese puffs. I called him an #### after we were walking through the airport. I DID feel much better after that. 😀 Whatever it takes.

I disagree with you completely. The root of the problem here is that you have an abused, exhausted, neglected, and unappreciated workforce that has gone unsupervised far too long. In the past prior to BK's you were held accountable for your actions or lack of actions at work. With the loss of many supervisors and the deteriorating work enviroment the employees were left to fend for themselves. Then along comes the contracted workforce, which IMO, did more damage to the work ethics of even the best employees. You started to see a workforce of minimum wage paid employees that lack respect for passengers and other employees. The working enviroment deteriorated rapidly and so did the work mentality. The bottom line is if you want good customer service from your employees....treat them with respect and make them want to be at work, working for a great airline. SWA has been doing that since Day 1 and it seems to be working for them. As far as professionalism goes, that as well is a thing of the past especially if the airline continues on its present course. JMO!

Perhaps he was secretly trying to give you a massage with his toes while his wife was busy inhaling orange cheese dust? Were you wearing flat fronts?

now, where is my wine?
