Transatlantic Schedule 2010

Well its not US metal in CUR, but US has announced an interline agreement with CUR based Insel Air.

Article

Perhaps we may see flights from CLT to CUR in the not too distant future.

"Yes, all in 2010. Thats what the word is on the International Street."

What/Who is this int'l street? Is it an employee, a ramp worker, words literally on the street?

I hope you are right

Any Intl expansion is unlikely for next few years until the Transatlantic market improves

Virtual expansion
In this economic condition the future internal growth will be temporary and short- term and slow
Unless parker wants to buy Delta

I think US should add

PHL-VIE
PHL-CAI
PHL-DUS which are all Star alliance hubs.
Also they should try PHL-KEF since no other American carrier flies there. I don't know if any American carrier has ever flown there. But the FI does have quite a few flights to the USA.
Another bold move would be CMN-PHL. CMN is another place that has no American carrier.
MEX could work once the flu season is over.

Domestically
I'm curious to know why US still doesn't fly to AUS, IAD, JFK, OMA, MEM, SLC which are all cities that have other airlines flying them. Also SNA, ICT, COS, & OMA might work.

Domestically US is pulling out of ICT in Nov so scratch that from the list.

???

US flies to DUB year-round now. IIRC, its 4x wkly in deep winter.

I've heard that CLT-CUR was a possibility, though as another poster said, you think it would've already been announced by now if they were going to fly it this winter. I suppose it could be announced shortly with a start up date sometime in Feb. Other destinations were being looked at in Mexico, but I assume that the H1N1 outbreak killed/delayed any of those plans.

CLT-EZE is probably another year away from being launched as well.

PB,

Here's my thoughts on it:

In addition to what you said, BUD and PRG are appealing to more and more American tourists as they are not as expensive as some of the more-developed tourist destinations in Europe. That said, I think if US ventures into cities in central/eastern Europe, they will stick to cities that have a *A on the other end (VIE, IST, *maybe* WAW). The 767 fleet is tiny as it is and if they start going to other places like HNL and GIG that leaves less room for expansion to smaller cities in Europe that can not be served with a 75E. Ultimately, I think VIE and NCE would be good 767 routes.

Bucharest (OTP), I would say not a chance. DL couldn't even make it work from JFK outside of the peak summer months (they might be back next summer??) and I believe they had a partnership with TAROM, the Romanian flag carrier.

HEL has always struck me as odd as to why no US carrier serves it, though it is outside of the range of a 757 so that probably explains why CO or US isn't there. I would say AA (or DL from JFK) would be the most likely since HEL is a oneworld hub.

PHL-DUB is 5x a week this winter as opposed to 4x a week last winter!

new seaonal destinations out of phl each year is not the answer to international expansion either make the routes year round....like normal airlines or lay off phl for a yera and give clt a chance with dub, fco, and eze

n....like normal airlines or l

like normal airlines???? My aren't you the funny one! 🙄

Flying to half of its European destinations for only few month a year is not the hallmark of a serious international carrier. CO serves some fairly small European markets such as BRS (Bristol) and manages to do so year round. It seems that US should be able to so with the likes of ATH and ZRH, even if just 4 times a week.

But as has been said by many people on these pages, one just can not compare US and CO anymore than one can compare apples and oranges.

Good question for Parker

Doug's answer: "Thank you for that question" he pauses purposefully to gulp a charge of water from a bottomless bottle. "We are looking at several cities now and in the future for opportunities that make sense economically and are viable to our route structure and equipment needs." Doug strikes a disconnected posture from his words. " 2010 will be a turning point for the industry as we struggle with increases in payroll costs and the uncertainty of oil prices going forward, so we are working with Airbus on a mutually beneficial and logical delivery schedule".

Parker eyes dart across the room like a quarterback on 4th and 15. He exhales through strained vocal chords "Next question".

CO makes smaller European markets work but they also seasonally cut service. EWR-FCO is 2x daily in the summer and 5x weekly in the winter. PHL-FCO is daily year round, with maybe a month or so of reduced service

Well considering that US also had the fewest TALT cuts, I would assume that they feel the route is better to actually just serve during the summer. While they don't get the traffic like AA or DL gets for having year round service, they also weren't in a dire need to slash/suspend routes because they were operating in the red. I was surprised that PHL-MILAN was suspended....To me that is purely business travel and US probably will lose any market share they had on it.
