TWU-IAM Association Gears Up For Joint Contract Talks

On the heels of the National Mediation Board’s (NMB) certifications of the TWU-IAM Associations at American Airlines, the Fleet Service and Mechanic and Re-lated negotiations committees have scheduled bargaining preparations at the Ma-chinists Union’s William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Complex in Hollywood, Maryland the week of July 6, 2015.

“Combining the labor agreements from two different airlines is a complex process, but this reconciliation will be the foundation on which new agreements will be forged,” said TWU International President Harry Lombardo and IAM General Vice President Sito Pantoja in a joint statement.

“The Association is eager to com-plete our preparations so we can get to the table and bargain the contracts our members deserve.”

“It’s largely due to the hard work and past sacrifices of members represented by the Associations that American Airlines is now among the most profitable carriers in the world,” continued Pantoja and Lombardo.

“It’s time that these dedicated employees share fully in the success they’ve been so instrumental in creating. That simply means the industry’s best labor agreement.” The TWU-IAM Association represents more than 30,000 ground workers at Amer-ican Airlines and is the largest union at the carrier. The Association’s leadership and membership is anxious to begin joint contract talks so their compensation is directly reflective of the airline’s success.

From the "Association's" text:

"The TWU-IAM Association represents more than 30,000 ground workers at Amer-ican Airlines and is the largest union at the carrier."

Note how they phrased that. Not "represents more than x number of skilled aviation maintenance professionals and x number of fleet service clerks," but just "more than 30,000 ground workers."

Remember the outrage when management referred to employee labor costs as "bricks in the backpack"? This is your own freakin worthless union calling you "ground workers."

Better stock up on an XL-sized can of lube, because that way there might not be as much long-lasting injury when your own union rams it home. You guys are Effed.

A complex process?  So what.  I couldn't make figuring out what to ask for, last more than a couple days at best.  Not really getting a good feeling about this associations lackadaisical approach to negotiations.  Why wait till July 6th, I mean really - what is more important?

The TWU and the IAM are the reason we lost the 4%. The scam association filing delayed everything. The association is fully responsible for screwing us out of our money. How much more money are we going to allow the unions to take away from us? 14% equity hold and prefunding match. Those bastards should ask for the 4% now and retro back to the start date. A real union would make an effort even if it is unsuccessful. Keep hoping boys, maybe we will get something soon without giving up too much in concessions.

exs,
I'm past the 2010 TA because it was voted down. I bring it up because people continue to lie about what it contained. I have not heard the TWU was offered a 10% pay reduction. What I did hear was that several on the 2003 concessions committee were in favor of waving the system protection temporarily to allow the company to layoff more to meet the cost goals and keep pay and benefits near the same. Enough presidents were not in favor of that for political reasons I was told. So we got the last minute plan we got stuck with.

Remembering the past is good if we note what went wrong or didn't work. What doesn't work in my opinion is officers who don't like it when their personal agenda is not fulfilled so they undermine the committee by bad mouthing, distorting, and outright lying about the TA. That's the number one reason we are screwed right now.

I do not believe they are waiting until the 6th of July, if you note the sub title tags, it is the 4th of July weekend and the Casino is just down the road. Perhaps they can practice their negotiating skills at the tables. At most all Casinos the odd's are against you. Is a better way to spend our dues money? I hope the negotiators bring their families along, it is a holiday weekend.

Last time I was there, there was no casino close by.

Its in the middle of no where in Southern, MD.

Anyone here rumors of the seniority lists going with a date of hire seniority list? regardless of classification? (a 30 yr ground worker(fleet) decides to get his A&P and slots in wherever 25 yrs gets him)?

Or (a 30 yr mechanic (AMT) decides to become one of the sheep (fleet) and slots in wherever 25 yrs gets him)?
No, I for one haven't heard that. I would think that would be contractual and have to be negotiated.

The current AA/TWU contract will only let a title one A/C cleaner carry over his or her occupational seniority if he or she becomes an AMT. Fleet service seniority does not carry over, since they are a different title group. With that said, your rumor probably is wishful thinking on someones part.
