The only sign of strength against the company is to withold from assisting them in our own destruction. Making them understand that if they want to go the distance by releasing us, after 30 days will be free to self-help and CHAOS will put the union and it's members in a position of strength and unity.
Just my thoughts, what do you think?
Well.........we would only be released if a Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) does not step in. That happened to the pilots in the late '90s. Clinton stepped in and stopped the strike.
Besides that, if we were to be released, what makes you think that the Company will allow CHAOS on the property? Dont think for a second that you would be allowed to come to work and create disruptions at will.
We would probably be locked out if it ever got to that point. Once both sides are released, the Company can impose whatever contract that they like. And it would probably be a lot worse than what we have now.
The Company wants to take MORE back from us. So in their convoluted thinking, we are being over-compensated at this point. The Company would probably welcome a release at this time, just so they can impose there own contract.
The way the economy is now, there are not too many jobs out there to fall back on. I dont think that people could stand a strike for very long.
Right now I find that I have "mixed feelings" on being released. I think that you will find Bob Owens also has "mixed feelings" on the subject. Check out the thread titled "TO ALL TWU MEMBERS". There is some interesting discussion on the issue.
This does not mean that we should give up, or settle for a sub standard contract. Just that I disagree with your views on how to get it, at this point in time. As times and conditions change, and if our negotiations continue to drag on, I may change my mind on being released.
So, I really dont see your point on how being released, at this point in time, will put us in a "position of strength and unity"
Not to be sarcastic, but our position would be more like "debt and forclosure"
