Under The You Need To Be Kidding Department

We are not going to drill ourselves out of this mess. And Congress is still sitting on their damn hands.

Sadly, this is all politics in a presidential election year. Congress (the majority of it, that is) is jumping with glee that this "perfect storm" is happening on the current Moron-in-Chief's watch. The worse it gets, the less likely Bush III will be elected in November.

All we can do is sit, watch and pray that critical mass is not reached before November.

No.

{so on and so forth }

Building more refineries and drilling off our protected coastlines and in our natural wildlife preserves so that we can continue to indulge our American excesses, is NOT the solution...

Your displaying the same sort of short sightedness you decry . The united states must Immediately begin drilling post haste in every square inch of ground that can produce oil …. Our entire way of LIFE is oil dependant … we must ensure that we have at LEAST 15 million barrels of oil a day home produced ..It may not be possible to count on foreign sources of oil going forward .

I’m not saying we need to destroy the environment so we can continue our lax way of life , I’m saying destroy the environment so we can continue to LIVE ….we can’t just snap our fingers and be off of oil tomorrow , it will take at least 5 years to make the radical changes we’re going to need .

Your displaying the same sort of short sightedness you decry . The united states must IMMIDENTELY begin drilling post haste

IMMIDENTELY, YOU LAZY BA$TARDS!!! YOU HEARD THE MAN!!
psstt....flightchic....grab me that webster's over there.....I'm feeling kind of sub-par here with these big words being thrown around.....look up "immidentely"...POST HASTE!!!

Nothing should be off the table ....Not nuclear, not more drilling ,not coal, wind or solar. Every possible energy must be explored and used. Conservation goes only so far. The enviro whacko's want nothing more to have us all on bicycles and eating tofu, they hate capitalism , which is the engine driving this economy. They want to eliminate our use of oil , while laudable is unrealistic as it is the best source on energy presently available. Ethanol is a boondoggle and a waste since it is inefficient and simply not practical. It takes more resources to make ethanol than it produces. The present oil problem is two fold , 1) supply and demand the demand is higher than the supply , The solution is to increase supply. 2) speculators artificially driving up the price when industry analysts readily agree oil should be around 70.00 per barrel. At least McCain has seen what needs to be done . Obama is touting the usual Dem mantra of no new exploration on US soil , and is only upset that gas is 4.00 per gallon because it rose to that price too quickly , not that is is 4.00. and with no plan to increase supply. If the Chinese and Cubans can drill 60 miles off the Florida coast , why won't we? Who stands a greater chance of having a spill , us or them? Nothing happened to our oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico from Katrina. Talk of alternatives is fine , but they are all talk. We are blessed with an abundance of natural resources in this country. We should as a national plan develop all types of energy so that we can tell the Saudi's and others to go pound sand , we don't need you anymore.

I agree with crusher except on the point of oil being inflated , it’s not .. either way that worry on if it’s inflated or not may no longer be relevant .

Don’t get me wrong , I’m all for protecting our environment …. But the united states is soon to face some major structural changes . drilling for more oil won’t harm the environment if it’s done properly … also a lot of the “green†alternatives don’t produce enough energy to power our country adequately at this time …. I’m not saying we need to abandon the quest for better renewable energies , but we must ensure that we have adequate energy supplies to meet our current demand .

I'll answer the part about drilling off the coast of Fla......GWB was only against it b/c his baby brother was the Fla governor who pandered to all the wealth on the Gulf Coast and didn't want a chance of an oil spill washing up on their pristine beaches and million dollar homes....

However Jeb is out and GW will be soon....so my prediction is it will happen sooner than later....

My response is that there is too much demand.

My full response would likely get moved to another thread or removed entirely because it does not relate to aviation per se, but rather why there is too much demand and why that situation is only getting worse and will continue to only get worse. Drilling more of a finite resource that does not, as far as I know, have a potential replacement for things like lubrication and other uses for good uses for petroleum is not the responsible response. It is a band-aid that will fail and make a worse mess of things than already exists.

Yep. The alternative, by way of just allowing the situation to continue to deteriorate...isn't very pretty to imagine. Human Nature..which hasn't changed one iota throughout known history...will otherwise, eventaully produce large-scale warfare and massive slaughter over the limited resources. It's now laughable, but the enviorMentalists might one day, find themselves essentially "hunted for sport" if things keep on going in the direction they are.

Alternative energy sources MUST be developed as well...and I don't mean cosmetic idiocies like putting up thousands of never productive, and now worthless and broken windmills in Kalifornia/etc. The nation, imho, should be attacking the energy issue with the same fanatical dedication earlier shown by the Manhattan Project, and the Apollo program...both of which actually worked.

How can we live on a planet after we have destroyed the environment?

Don't flatter yourself. "An Inconvenient Truth" is that human beings haven't yet proved ourselves even able to much effect Mother Earth's processes in any significant fashion. How about having a wee bit of faith that technology can/will be developed along the way as needed. We're an insane species..but not entirely suicidal in any case.

Wow. We finally disagree on something.

We're not deliberately suicidal. We're ignorantly suicidal. And the education may come to late to reverse course.

Kind of the a dog that finds a puddle of anti-freeze in the gutter. MMMMmmmmm...good...sweet...yummy.

Kerplunk.

You really should enclose such with snark tags or at least follow with: 😉 just to let the slow ones here know that you are just kidding. right?

Uh, over 200 rigs out of some 238 had major damage, including oil spills, because of Katrina. Lush Rimbaugh is not a source of facts.

We should have done that after 11Sep01. Instead, we decided to whump up on the Taliban and when we could not find bin Laden we decided to "regime change" a totally innocent (9-11) country. I'd say the US is about seven years behind.

But, on a bright note, the US petroleum interests are having a field day with taxpayer monies. not to mention all those "no-bid" contracts let to the vice's last company, Halliburton.
