Press Release--US Airways Flight Attendant 'Membership Unity Rally'
February 17th, from 11:00am to 1:00pm, PHL Intl. Airport, in front of C concourse

US Airways flight attendants tell AFA-CWA leadership E. I. E. I. O.

"Enough Is Enough I'm Outraged"

We need Union leadership that is as committed to helping us get a joint agreement with US Airways as it is chasing Delta.

AFA Intl. spent thousands of hours and millions of dollars in an unsuccessful attempt to represent Delta flight attendants before their merger with Northwest; even with U. S. Department of Labor voting regulations improved to give them a better chance, AFA recently lost the vote to represent the merged group.

AFA leaders blame the losses on interference from Delta management. However, the evidence at US Airways shows that it's as probable the Delta flight attendant's decision was based more on observing how AFA officers perform FOR their membership AFTER an election than interference from Delta management during an election.

Five years ago, knowing that America West and US Airways flight attendants faced a difficult challenge reaching a merged agreement, the AFA President, with the support of the AFA Intl. Officers and the AFA Local Officers from both airlines, violated every AFA Merger Policy section dealing with unifying the flight attendant group and advancing negotiations.

Within the past few months alone, the AFA Intl. Secy/Treas. gave two excellent examples of the way AFA Officers have worked FOR the membership at US Airways. His office did not have adequate safeguards to make sure transferring members could vote in a Local Council election; he then failed to address the voting irregularities that resulted, forcing the Department of Labor to conduct a fair re-election. In the second incident, in violation of the AFA Constitution, he worked with Local Officers subject to a recall petition by the members to void the petition.

After more than five years, the AFA US Airways leadership produced the first ever JNC 'One Voice' paper. Before that publication every communication from the Joint Negotiation Committee has been released as separate points of view by the West and East JNC members.

Today the flight attendant groups are still intentionally separated, West & East. We have two separate AFA leadership groups. We have two separate communications platforms, with no internal format for the East & West flight attendants to talk among each other, and there has still been no system wide survey of the membership to establish negotiation guidelines. These are all violations of AFA Merger Policy and the best interest of the flight attendants.

On February 17th, at 11:00 am, at the PHL Intl. airport, AFA leadership is conducting part of a system wide 'One Voice' rally. The focus?, urging members to, "Show support for your JNC and all the work AFA has done."

In Philadelphia, US Airways flight attendants are going public to announce to AFA "Enough Is Enough I'm Outraged". We DO NOT support the current JNC. We DO NOT support the damage AFA has done to the membership in this merger. We DO demand new competent, concerned AFA leaders to help us get a merged contract with US Airways management. NOW
