Vol Furlough Info Out

I sat reserve in CLT for 14 years...Some of which were under this gruesome system we have now.

In fact, I was on reserve last November. Just in time for Thanksgiving. And I have 19 years with company. I know your pain in Spades.

I am truly sorry. That is so pathetic that you had to do that. It shouldn't be this way. MF just doesn't care. I really don't see a light at the end of the tunnel. It is so wrong to have people with 19 years sitting reserve like that.

But, oh, I forget, at US Airways, no one cares about you, especially if you are a puke junior reserve. It's just all about me Miss Senior Sally who's never lived the life of a reserve! There is no concept of morals or doing what is right. It's more like, I only care about myself and will screw you over in a heartbeat just to get what I want then justify it by saying that it's only fair because of seniority. There is nothing fair about throwing one group under the bus just so another group can fully benefit. Of course, I don't even see how the senior group can fully benefit since there are no medical benefits. So, I guess you are happy not only screwing the junior people but also you own senior colleagues. Sure there is a fair way, but the union nor the "membership" would never go for that because we can't have anything that would benefit anybody else. We can't have anything fair because it's all about seniority. If it's fair, then that would be everybody would have a piece of the pie and we can't allow that, now can we?
I just spent the last three years of my 22 year career on this horrid RSV system while they were slowly closing the PIT base down. So, with 19,20 & 21 years seniority I ,by choice, lived the system because I didn't want to commute.

I got called in the middle of the night to go cover every other bases trips but my own. I had my OFF days taken away and had to argue with them that no, I was not international qualified to fly to Europe. Yes, I was a BH in PIT for many years but before that, I was on Piedmont's RSV system where you didn't have a choice of trips, you just got what they felt like giving you. Not saying that I've done my time and deserve to be a BH now but before you judge, remember that there are those of us that started with an even worse system than this one and have lived with the crappy one THAT WAS VOTED IN by a majority of F/As on the property.

It is the COMPANY that will not change the RSV section outside of negotiations, it is the COMPANY that wanted our MEC to basically change past practice and the contract to have this VF go through. Before you get mad at those of us who did nothing but get hired before you, turn your anger at the company and ask why they would be willing to negotiate this change but not a RSV change NOW while people are unable to pay their bills.
Just a friendly reminder here that the enemy is not your fellow F/A.

No, fellow f/as are not my enemy, but a useless union who refuses to help us out and the company who also refuses to make any changes are sure seem like enemies. Don't get me wrong, AFA has helped me out in minor things, but when are they going to step up and truly demand a change?

No, that's not true.
If they made the changes NOW it would only give relief to the company.
Where's the Company been when YOU , the reserve f/a needed relief from the CBA?
The street goes both ways, does it not?
How would changing the CBA help you out in this instance?
What would you stand to gain?

I don't blame Mike Flores for this. And oh, yes he cares very much.

The responsibility for the plight of the reserve f/a's lands squarely on the company. They have had over 2 years to rectify some of the injustices that were crammed down our throats during bankruptcy. But they don't want to let go of the slave labor.

The company does not care! I had said before in many blogs, if the F/A's truly care, truly, write to the FAA, Congress, Your Statesman. To be on call for 24 hours a day is INHUMANE!!!!! And the company is laughing at you because they can get away with it. And they will get away with it until we get 1) OSHA and or 2) get rid of this ridiculous practice of being on call 24 hours a day. Mike CANNOT change this (now) unless we have legislation. Write to Steve Schembs legislative affairs on this. Don't complain on this blog. It DOES NOTHING TO CHANGE THE FAR'S! As far as new contract, well, I wouldn't bet if we didn't settle in 2 years or so.

I commend John for having the PHL base's back, but the other 4 bases disagreed with him. My only concern here is that PHL is becoming the new PIT, thinking it is somehow the center of the universe. Oh I forgot, they got the majority of PIT f/a's. Well, there you go.
Keep in mind that it was the members of the PIT base that saw this piece of crap contract for what it is and voted AGAINST it......all other bases had their majority vote FOR it.

The problem is that reserves only make up less than 20% of the f/a's in general. Even if every reserve in each base voted against this contract, the blockholders voted for it. Little did some of them know that they might be back on reserve someday and have to live with the current reserve system. Some only think about themselves and not the majority. Some people still think there is a separate reserve contract still.

Back to the topic:
If the VF had stayed to PHL and CLT with medical benefits, then if they didn't get enough they could have opened it up for other bases. It would have helped out some of the reserves in those 2 bases that may now be displaced to BOS, LGA, and DCA. I don't believe anyone will be involuntarily furloughed, but displacements are going to happen. That means once again disrupting the lives of some who have finally been able to return to CLT or PHL in the past 6 months. It may mean someone based in DCA is going to be forced to go to LGA or BOS.

Bingo!

What about Pref Bid?

Pref Bidding can be good and bad. If you are a junior blockholder you could possibly get stuck with the worst trips. However, I don't think our MEC will ever accept the bidsheet going bye bye, so trip improving would still help improve that. The good part is that it would allow for a lot more lineholders, so our reserve f/a's would strictly be for sick calls or irregular ops. Michael Elias knows a lot about pref bidding pros and cons and explained a lot to me.

Keep in mind that we all took a 34% IMPOSED paycut by da judge and the majority of the f/a's were smart enough to recognize that a no vote would send us back to the judge and more than likely give the company EVERYTHING they would want of concessions. Tell the entire story!! Playing Norma Rae is fine when you have leverage. Chapter 11, Part 2 and no public sympathy is NOT and was NOT leverage. A company on the brink of Chapter 7 was not leverage. I have NO doubts that had we voted no, you would have MUCH more to biiatch about today than our crappy contract!

You know what---there are days that I actually wish this company HAD liquidated. I would have been well into a new career by now instead of staying here and watching it die a slow death.

Actually the judge imposed a 19% paycut during the 1113e hearings.

I think that many of us would agree that if US FAs could go back and live with the 21% paycut versus what was agreed to they would do just that.

It always made me wonder, why didn't NWA f/as learn from the US mess?

It would be better working for that judge imposed paycut than the collective 30% loss that US FAs ended up with.

Hindsight being 20/20.

Absolutely----when I think about my earning sick time per month and then they only pay me 70% of what I've earned but take 100% from my sick bank............that is CRIMINAL. Grandma would have called it outright STEALING !!!!
