PTO it is not AMFA it is the Mechanics AMFA is merely a name it is made up of the members, whatever Union they are in they would still be doing what they are doing.

The name over the door means nothing, it is the members of a Union that dictate it's personality. B)

A rose by any other name is still a rose. B)

The custodians and cleaners should have never been in the same union as the mechanics.

That's true they did not want them in there that was forced by the nmb in fact Mechanics do not want any work group in with them except Mechanics but the NMB screwed that up, but with AMFA the Mechanics are still the majority and that is the next best thing.

The top 1080 in seniority would never vote to accept the proposal and abandon their brothers low on the list than them.....
i wouldn't count my chickens too quickly dude...
your 1080 are the ones closest to retiring and the 'ol lady will have considerable weight here.

I agree they would be fools not to go back. There are a lot of older guys in the contract industry that got screwed out of their pensions over BS like this. They were hardcore union till they saw their pensions go bye bye.

AMFA is not the ones that are looking to get rid of more than half their members and give a 26% paycut to the rest.

No but AMFA is the one that just lost 100% of its jobs. AMFA isn't worried about the mechanics its worried about the cleaners and custodians dues they would lose if Northwest outsourced those jobs. Northwest knew this so they pushed this whole thing forward balls to the walls and sucked the mechanics up too. The whole concept of mechanics, cleaners and custodians in one union is absurd. When you have a guy making 22 an hour for 15 years, as a custodian is ludicrous. I can't believe Northwest let that go on this long.

Better talk to the IAM, TWU and the IBT, they pushed for this at the NMB and local with the airlines in an attempt to keep mechanics from getting their own union.

The unions want this to get the numbers up to collect nice dues. The company wants this to keep the unions weak. All in all the mechanics get screwed.

No, and this has been a 40 year battle, the industrial unions have historically fought to keep mechanics in their union by diluting the craft with lesser skilled folks who would be more inclined to stay with the industrial union.

That is exactly my point. The lesser skilled workers can usually be replaced with a single phone call. Where is the power of the strike there? If you guys want a union that will work you have to associate yourselves with equal or higher skilled crafts. I would suggest a union comprised of mechanics, flight attendants and pilots. Possibly even the controllers. Now you have a union that can impose an effective strike. This strike was a joke.

You might want to do some research into the RLA and the NMB. The government calls the shots on who is allowed into what craft and class.

The "government" is made up of "people" who make rules that are not always the correct ones.AMFA should have been lobbying congressman and senators to get this injustice corrected long ago.Skilled and non-skilled workers should never be grouped together in the first place.
It is a cop out to say that the government determines this when the government reverses its decisions all the time.
I do believe that the NWA mechanics are getting screwed by the NWA management and not AMFA.

That's exactly what the mechanics need to do is isolate themselves even more. Do you thing the outcome would be the same if lets say the Flight Attendants or the Ramp would have backed Mechanics. Ever hear the phrase "strength in numbers"?

One way or another NW is going to get what it wants from the mechanics and the mechanics have no one to blame but their union for not being better prepared.

We will soon see how prepared the other NWA groups are when its their turn for the management assault. They are next for the NWA firing squad.

NWA management tipped their hand long ago with the constant layoffs and the outsourcing of the DC-10's and 747's to China under the worthless IAM in 1995.

You'd have to be blind not to see this scab plan coming given the ruthless history of NWA management.
