The "government" is made up of "people" who make rules that are not always the correct ones.AMFA should have been lobbying congressman and senators to get this injustice corrected long ago.Skilled and non-skilled workers should never be grouped together in the first place.
It is a cop out to say that the government determines this when the government reverses its decisions all the time.
[post="299087"][/post]

The "government" in this case is made up of the National Mediation Board, which is who determines questions of "class and craft" for representation under the RLA.

Through the repeated efforts of AMFA, the first instance being in 1966 and the most recent in the mid-1990s with several other instances in between, the NMB has been forced to reconsider the issue of who makes up the craft and class of mechanic and related. Successive generations on NMB members have only reaffirmed the original decision which placed the other work groups in that class and craft.

If you think that "the government reverses its decisions all the time", you've never met the NMB.

If that is the case any mechanics union is worthless. A union is only as strong as its weakest member. If you are always at the bottom of the totem pole you are always going to be the first to get kicked.

Well now you know why the struggle to elevate the craft has been a 40 year fight. It has been a fight against the government, big business, industrial unions, AFL-CIO, and now SCABS. That's the part I don't get of you PTO, you hate the AMFA with a passion but yet don't have a clue of what they have fought for.

Oh no?

Lets see the NMB told AMFA that its demands were too much back in 2001 and that they would never release them unless they lowered those demands. Talks between the mechanics at NWA (under two different unions)and the company were going on for four years. However within a year of talks in 2005 the NMB released both parties to self help because the company wanted to see a strike despite the fact that NWAs demand were without dispute "extreme". So here we see a double standard. When companies are prepared or desire a strike in an attempt to bust the union the NMB simply changes their minds.

AMFA isn't worried about the mechanics its worried about the cleaners and custodians dues they would lose if Northwest outsourced those jobs.

The whole concept of mechanics, cleaners and custodians in one union is absurd. When you have a guy making 22 an hour for 15 years, as a custodian is ludicrous. I can't believe Northwest let that go on this long.

Hey CIO, see what your new found buddy is saying?

What do you think he feels about baggage handlers and flight attendants making that kind of money?

The IAM and PFAA are next.

You need to go back and research what happened with the iam in 1995 at NWA.

You need to go back and research what happened with the iam in 2002 and 3003 at UAL.

You need to go back and research what happened with the iam in 2001, 2002 at US Air.

Let us know what you find, if your able to comprehend the information that is.

It won't get you anywhere the same people will be there minus a few other work groups, maybe that is the difference at Northwest the Mechanic are fighters and the other groups are not and that is why they are striking now whereas they did not in the past, if that is the case then that is what the Majority of that work group want.
That is what a Union is all about Majority Rule and that just happens to be one of the parts of a Union I don't like. 🙁

but hey High Speed if you are a Mechanic then you are getting what the Majority of your classification wants that's Unionism and if you don't like that then you don't like Unions right.

You continue to make uneducated twu propaganda statements like "AMFA should be ashamed of the lives they have ruined". Yet, you seem to be totally oblivious as to what the industrial unions have done before AMFA ever got on the property at NWA, UAL, Alaska, Continental, US Air, and yes AA.

Do you think AMFA would be in existance today if the industrial unions did their job of representation and had some accountabilty to the members that pay them?

Do you think the afl-cio would be losing member unions today if they would change as the members wish and stop coddling Sweeny?

Bargaining power??????? Giving everything the company demands is bargaining power???? Are you high???? We lost much more than money!!!!!! You still refuse to see this???

No one wants what is happening to NWA to happen. But were do you draw the line? Do you ever DRAW THE LINE????

Do you just keep giving to the man, and sit back while he laughs all the way to the bankruptcy judge with his millions and just keep saying; "Dadgum, at least I got me this here job, even if I'm workin" fer free".

Yes, unemployment sucks.

Not having a spine, and jumping up and down on command as a company man wage slave, is worse.

raptor, Minus a few work groups??? Then why did the amfa request for those work groups to support their cause when the chips were down...???? I guess strength in numbers really has some clout......huh raptor.......And raptor I do support what the majority wants. That is why amfa does not represent the members at AA
